best accommodation in Nelson
I've been heading to Nelson for years, but to Virtual Tourist only for weeks. So looks like it's a good time to give some credit to this charming little inn, after some pretty less-than-impressive stays at the other hotels in (fantastic) Nelson. It gets totally top marks for location (central, and quiet); cleanliness, which is perfect; and service from the two world-traveller owners.
It looks like an old house, as it's a statuesque Victorian building, but it's very contemporary inside. Not at all like what I've experienced from some fairly cluttered family-home style bed and breakfasts in that City and elsewhere. A great deal of care and attention to detail has gone into providing modern, stylish touches to the rooms and the common areas. The owners live on-site, but away from the guests, so you never feel as if you are right in their home, which, personally, always makes me feel uncomfortable.
Beds are great, wireless was free, and breakfasts huge and superb. Would I go back? Well, considering the price, and the fact that I've tried most of the competition, I wouldn't stay anywhere else.
Unique Quality: The service is perfect. Owners are extremely helpful, knowledgeable and gracious, but never get in your way (which puts me off the idea of bed and breakfasts), and they are so enthusiastic about what they do, we felt made to feel really special.
Private parking lot - couldn't believe that a couple of the other 'major' hotels in town don't have parking. Because of their location, you then don't need the car to explore the town.
Wonderful four room (two bedrooms, bath and kitchen) apartment/suite with fab views takes up the top floor. Good value for families.
