best accommodation in Nelson
I've been heading to Nelson for years, but to Virtual Tourist only for weeks. So looks like it's a good time to give some credit to this charming little inn, after some pretty less-than-impressive stays at the other hotels in (fantastic) Nelson. It gets totally top marks for location (central, and quiet); cleanliness, which is perfect; and service from the two world-traveller owners.
It looks like an old house, as it's a statuesque Victorian building, but it's very contemporary inside. Not at all like what I've experienced from some fairly cluttered family-home style bed and breakfasts in that City and elsewhere. A great deal of care and attention to detail has gone into providing modern, stylish touches to the rooms and the common areas. The owners live on-site, but away from the guests, so you never feel as if you are right in their home, which, personally, always makes me feel uncomfortable.
Beds are great, wireless was free, and breakfasts huge and superb. Would I go back? Well, considering the price, and the fact that I've tried most of the competition, I wouldn't stay anywhere else.
Unique Quality: The service is perfect. Owners are extremely helpful, knowledgeable and gracious, but never get in your way (which puts me off the idea of bed and breakfasts), and they are so enthusiastic about what they do, we felt made to feel really special.
Private parking lot - couldn't believe that a couple of the other 'major' hotels in town don't have parking. Because of their location, you then don't need the car to explore the town.
Wonderful four room (two bedrooms, bath and kitchen) apartment/suite with fab views takes up the top floor. Good value for families.
Directions: next block uphill from Baker Street, the main street

Great Anniversary Get-Away
We spent our Anniversary weekend at the Cloudside Inn. The hosts went out of their way to make everything comfortable and restful for us. They had great deals for everything that we wanted to do and a great book of reviews for all of the local restaurants. Chris and Sally were great, and we will go back another time.
Great B&B - friendly & comfortable
Chris & Sally have a fantastic B&B here - It was our first visit to Nelson and they couldn't have been more helpful. We had a very comfortable room & ensuite which was spotless. Good recommendations and really nice to see people who seem genuinely passionate about what they do!
A great place to stay - highly recommended.
Attention to detail - wonderful
Excellent standard of accommodation, with a stand-out-from-the-crowd sophistication. I've stayed at this place twice now, and come to realise that what makes it special is that the hosts have the ability to make every guest feel as if they are genuinely valued, welcome, and unique, yet without being too in-your-face or overpowering.
This is a real skill, yet the two owners have only been doing this for two years. Maybe that's why they are still so enthusiastic - and demonstrably passionate about making sure everything is just right for their customers. Many B&Bs have overwhelming owners who seem to think that the reason you stayed with them was so that they can tell you all about their own lives - not make you feel as if you are really a special visitor.
To repeat most of the other reviews: superbly clean, great breakfasts, good value for money in a town where the accommodation standards are lacking, to say the least, wonderful personal hospitality, in a quiet spot with easy access to all that the downtown offers.
I didn't know that they catered for those with special diets, or with severe allergies, but another guest was there for just that reason. I also heard from chatting to a local in a coffee shop (that's what people do all day in Nelson) that they seem to be growing pretty fast too....can't just be me that will be going back then!deck - wish I had had sunshine...
home in nelson
i have been visiting this fine B&B for 2 years. the accomidation is one of the few places that i am safe with severe alergies. the owners are frendly, the service and location great. the breakfast table is a wounderful plave to meet people from around the world.
Lovely Stay in a Charming Place
Cloudside is a charming old house that sits high on a hill above the funky city of Nelson. It is an easy walk from the B&B to just about anywhere in town. Free off-street parking is available at the rear of the house.
We shared the top-floor suite for two nights with a couple we traveled with through B.C. and Alberta. One bedroom is at the front of the house and the other at the rear. The suite has a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom in the hall, easily accessed from both bedrooms. There are two entrances -- one from inside the house and the other at the back bedroom, where steps lead from the door to a deck under construction and then to the parking space. The front bedroom also serves as a dining and sitting area and has a cable TV. We found the suite to be immaculate and comfortable. Noise (perhaps from a generator) came from across the street into the front bedroom and might annoy light sleepers.
Shoes must be removed while inside, which is typical for many B&Bs in British Columbia. I find it convenient to travel with light slippers to use in these places.
The well-traveled owners were friendly and helpful. I had been concerned about possible hot weather in June, so Sally put two air conditioning units in the suite. She also offered to do my laundry when she learned that I had been ill before arriving.
A sitting room off the dining room on the ground floor offered plenty of reading material and free computer use. Both breakfasts proved to be excellent and included a choice of cereals and homemade goodies.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cloudside and highly recommend this B&B to others.
A Great Experience In Nelson
Chris and Sally Drysdale have taken an 1896 Victorian House with a great view in Nelson, British Columbia, and by dint of their personalities and the ambience, made it a pleasant place to stay.
We stayed there on July 31st, and thorough enjoyed ourselves. The only negative aspect was that my wife Casey was upset that we didn't stay longer.
It is a great old house, and the hosts have taken the time to research the history of the home, which makes it all the more interesting.
They are also great with maps of where to eat, go, and enjoy, in the Nelson area.
The Cloudside Is wonderful
Nelson, British Columbia is a wonderful place to visit and the Cloudside Inn is the best place to stay. It is under wonderful new ownership by a lovely young couple from England who do a wonderful job of making you feel welcome, comfortable and well fed.
The Cloudside Inn is located just a block away from Nelson's hub of activity and wonderful stores on Baker Street. Many tasty restaurants are located within easy walking distance.
Our bicycle club has been doing a yearly tour every August through Southern British Columbia for many years. We used to stay at one of the more conventional motels in Nelson but after we found the Cloudside Inn, formerly known as Inn the Garden B&B we had such an enjoyable time that we have added an extra day to our week-long trip and spend that as our "rest-day" in the middle of our trip where we get pampered and restored at the Cloudside Inn.
You'll love this beautifully updated, cozy, warm early 1900's home and the wonderful owners who will make you feel most welcome and comfortable.
cute as a button
My friend and I had a wonderful stay at The Cloudside Inn which is under the ownership of a delightful couple called Chris and Sally from the U.K. who made us very welcome. The Inn was as cute as a button and very welcoming. The room and bathroom were kept extremely clean.
The location was perfect as there was a fantastic coffee shop just around the corner and the main shopping area and restaurants one street below. The breakfasts were yummy and my one suggestion would be to add some fresh cut flowers which would add a nice touch.
Wonderful homely B+B in great location with excellent hosts and breakfast
This is wonderful B and B in a great location in Nelson. We stayed for two nights in the Pine Suite (2 doubles) with a shared bathroom. There is a nice lounge for guests with free internet and water; teas/coffees. The breakfast is excellent - changing daily offerings - we had pancakes one day and a continental selection on the second with freshly baked croissants, pastries and muffins. All supported by excellent cereals and granola selection. The British hosts are very welcoming and on hand to offer advice about the area. The B+B is in walking distance to everything in Nelson. It boasts a new decking area with some nice outdoor seating. We would thoroughly recommend this as a great place to stay in Nelson.
