With the abundance of high quality timber in the area, many residents construct their homes and summer cottages from logs. The offer the advantage of elegance, durability and ease of construction and for the most part are relatively inexpensive. Most are built from Lodgepole Pine, White Spruce or Western Red Cedar.
The photo shows a log home under construction. Each log is carefully peeled, then shaped and notched to fit the other logs in the assembly. Typically, logs can be more than 18 inches in diameter. Many of the log homes are exported world-wide, particularly Japan.

Needless to say, Green Lake takes its name from the intense blue-green colour of its water. Although not a prime fishing lake it has a good stock of rainbows and Kokanee. It's primarily a base camp from which to explore the thousands of other lakes in the area.
