"Port Hardy in one day"
I spent a wonderful four days in Tofino but couldn't leave Vancouver Island without exploring something new. Tofino always draws me like a magnet.
This time when I left Tofino, I went east then as far north as you could go, to Port Hardy. It is definitely a trip that needs more than one day... 3 hours to get there and back, and lots of side roads just begging to be explored.
The town was pretty subdued the day I was there, one day after a ferry tragedy. But the scenery was beautiful...
The thing that surprised me the most was the view of the mountains on the mainland. I didn't realize the island was close enough that you could see the mountains. Beautiful...
