As part of my trip to Canada I am contemplating going from Whistler through to Prince George then on to Prince Rupert.I would like to know how scenic this route is or would I be better to take an alternative way

The route you want to follow is rather scenic and can include a return trip by BC Ferries from Prince Rupert back to Vancouver, going through the Inside Passage.
The first leg of the road trips id via Highway 99 from Vanc, to Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, Lillooet, Cache Creek. From Cache Creek head north on the Cariboo Highway 97, through to Williams Lake, Quesnel and Prince George.
From Prince George head west on the Yellowhead Highway 16, to Vanderhoof, Burns Lake, Smithers and Terrace, which ends at Prince Rupert.
This is magnificent country.
As a side trip, near Kitwanga on Highway 16m just west of Smithers, you might want to head north up the Stewart-Cassiar Highway 37 to visit Stewart and neighbouring Hyder, Alaska (don't forget to get "Hyderized") The spectacular drive through the Bear Pass will take you past the huge Bear Glacier, just a few hundred meters from the highway. Making a loop on the return from Stewart takes you past New Aiyansh indian village and the moonscape of the lava beds nearby... this is one of the most recent volcanic eruptions in Canada.

Prince George is a hard bitten mill town now fallen on hard times-that is to say it's a dump not worth visiting even for 30 minutes.
The route you're planning on taking is scenic enough but involves a lot of hard driving.
I suggest you stop for the night in Williams Lake-itself an undistinguished place-and then continue west from there to Bella Coola.
The road runs thru beautiful ranch country and then up into the Coast range of mountains over and down onto the Coast and is a seldom visited part of BC.
You can then continue on the Coast Discovery Ferry to Vancouver Island along the most scenic part of the Inside Passage.

The first leg of the road trips id via Highway 99 from Vanc, to Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, Lillooet - i have done this section of the trip and it is a really beautiful drive. pemberton-lillooet is gorgeous. unfortunatly there are not many roadside pull offs to stop at to enjoy the view. also make sure your gas tank is full - nothing in between these two places.

"Prince George"
In July 2000, my dad, sister and I flew to Prince George,B.C.,Canada to visit my uncle and do a bit of exploring.
P.G. as it is known is a beautiful place surrounded by the Rocky mountains and it enjoys warm summers and very cold winters.
It was well worth the day of traveling to get there!!!
