TUNNELS & HELL'S GATE ON THE FRASER CANYON DRIVE
As I come from Australia, the drive through the Fraser Canyon was pretty amazing!
There were 7 Tunnels that we passed through.
Heading to Hope from Lytton where the Fraser & Thompson rivers meet, we came to our 1st Tunnel, China Bar. Its name came from the gold-bearing sand bar in the Fraser River. Hardworking Chinese made a fortune by reworking an area that others believed to be exhausted, lucky them!! At 610m long, China Bar Tunnel is the longest Tunnel.
Then there was Hell's gate, Ferrabee, Alexandra & Sailor Bar Tunnels. The 146m long Saddle Rock tunnel, named for the saddle shaped rock in the Fraser River nearby was next, with the Yale tunnel being last and the nearest to Hope.
It was quite an experience for us!
At Hells Gate, there are huge towering rock walls of which the boiling waters of the Fraser River, rock and roll through a narrow passage only 35 metres wide, I surely wouldn't want to fall in, or have the Airtram plunge into those waters!
The website for the Airtram is......

We didn't do this, but did stop and have a look.
