Luxurious Comfort

I worked here for over a year, so I can attest to the high standards this place has for it's staff. You will get very good service here, at the desk, in the restaurant, and in the rooms (the rooms will vary in summer, as the staff has high turnover and a lot of people are being trained in summer, so sometimes they mess up).

There are a few different styles of rooms - the ocean view is the nicest, obviously, and the most common. The "forest view" is the cheapest, but it's more of a parking lot view. The penthouse is exquisite, but very expensive (though not as much as the Wickininnish Inn), with glorious views of Cox Bay right from your bathtub.

All the rooms have fridges, TVs, DVD players, comfy beds, bath, shower, amenities, chocolates, tea, coffee (and maker), and bottled water.

Also, there are beautiful cabins that sleep 6-8 people. These have hot tubs, full kitchens, laundry, TV, DVD, 2 bathrooms, and 2 bedrooms.

Unique Quality: The views are beautiful if you have an ocean view. The rooms are beautifully decorated - very understated and indicative of the area.

Having a good friend working here has its perks!

I was quite fortunate staying in Tofino during my December 2003 trip. My good friend was working here so I was able to visit her in the staff accommodation and make it my home base for the entire time that I stayed there. I was also able to tour around the rooms of the Long Beach Lodge resort, both the cabins and the rooms within the larger lodge.

Unique Quality: The Long Beach Lodge resort is a really posh resort that has flavours of the rustic west coast. They have single cabins located inland, between groves of cedars, firs and hemlocks. They also have the lodge itself which acts more like a traditional hotel, with rooms facing onto the beach at Cox Bay. Located a 15 minute drive south of the town of Tofino, people stay at the Long Beach Lodge resort to get away from it all... to seclude themselves on a gorgeous beach overlooking the Pacific ocean. Their restaurant here is also top notch, serving the finest west coast seafood cuisine.

Camping in Tofino

The Longbeach campground has some nice spots to pitch a tent. There is enough distance and trees between the sites that you don't have to see you neighbors. The price was $25/ a site. The negative thing about this site is a rule that the entrance is locked shut at 11pm...no exceptions. This may be a gaint inconvience if you miss a ferry coming over from the mainland and arrive late.

Unique Quality: Long beach campgorund is the only campsite that I have ever been to that has it's own landing strip. The areas Airport is on site. Also in the campground is a golf course, driving range and a golf pro-shop.

Terrible Service at Long Beach Lodge

by TripAdvisor Member NurseShar

Stayed at this hotel in March 2003, after seeing beautiful pictures of it online. When we arrived we were pleased to find it was just as gorgeous as the pictures!
Unfortunately, we found the staff to be curt and unfriendly. When we checked in we were not welcomed or smiled at, and were disappointed to find that there was no one to help with luggage, which we had to haul up to our room on the second floor. Our ocean view room was just past the dining room and were shocked at how loud the after dinner clean up noise was from the open kitchen. After settling in to bed at around 11pm we were awakened by the very, very loud sound of the jacuzzi bath on the floor above us. At this point we called the front desk and were told by staff that they had had complaints of that nature before but that there was nothing they could do.
Not wanting to spend another loud night in the same room, the next day we left a message for the manager so that our concerns could be adressed. She approached us in the middle of the restaurant, sat down at out table and told us that there was nothing they could do, they had never had those complaints before, and that because we had received a 10 percent discount (AAA) on our room at booking we had no right to complain. She didn't even have the decency to meet with us in private. If the staff and management had been friendly, maybe offering a free dessert in the restaurant or even just some sympathy, we would not have been so disappointed with our stay overall. The poor treatment was worse in our minds than the noise problem!! I would stay there again, but only if the management were different and the staff were genuine and friendly. There was no attempt to make guests feel welcome or special.

Long Beach Lodge, Ocean Outfitters and RainCoast Adeventures

by TripAdvisor Member BethToronto

My boyfriend and I travelled to Tofino at the beginning of August 2004. We had pre-booked a room at Long Beach Lodge in Cox Bay knowing that we would be travelling over the long weekend. The scenery was spectacular!! The service far exceeded our expectations -- complimentary drinks were offered when our check-in time was delayed only five minutes. Employees were delightful and helpful, but not over-bearing. The lodge was beautiful, located right on the beach and only 7 km from Tofino. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Ocean Outfitters provided us with awesome whale and sea lion watching experience, and a hot spring tour all in one!

Rick Telford of Raincoast Adventures took us through all of the logging routes to see a backside of Vancouver Island that most people never see. All in all...it was a fabulous experience!!

What a honeymoon!!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We booked Long Beach Lodge for our honeymoon after checking out their website. We changed the dates of our honeymoon so that we could stay a week in Tofino, just because of the website. The architecture and splendor caught our eye, it quickly eliminated our list of possibilities such as Greece & the Caribbean. In August 2004, we stayed 7 nights in total between the cottages & one night in the main lodge. We were pleasantly surprised to see how wonderful this quaint lodge was. The staff was perfect and able to give great recommendations for local charters, restaurants and activities. The food was awesome, and we truly were able to relax. You need it after the drive to Tofino. (twisty mountain road)

We are already making plans to make a family trip to Long Beach Lodge...hopefully sooner than later.

Great Service

by A TripAdvisor Member

Our first visit here (but not to the Tofino area) and booked three rooms at the Long Beach Lodge over the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. Although we had some concerns because of other reviews, we found the service casual but attentive and efficient. We were impressed with the friendliness and the attention to details. No complaints about any of the the staff during our three night stay. Now on my recommended list for top end places in the Pacific Rim.

Our Wedding - Very Impressed!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We booked our wedding and honeymoon at Long Beach Lodge, sight unseen, save the photos on their website. It was an excellent experience on many levels. First, we were greeted with amazing weather - sunny and 10 degrees C for 7 days, and this is storm season! I found the wedding coordinator, Suzanne, very helpful in organizing the event from afar (we are in Calgary), and she even participated that day to make things run smoother. The staff were very accomodating for our special day, very friendly people dedicated to personalizing our experience. The rooms - both the cottages and the oceanview lodge rooms - were luxurious, with every attention to detail. The beach is beautiful with lots to see in the surrounding towns and sites. The food is to die for!! The staff at the Lodge can recommend restaurants offsite that serve the same calibre of stellar food and wine, for when you want to explore. Once our families left, we enjoyed quiet walks on the beach, exploring the sites and hanging around the wonderful greatroom in the lodge, where food and drink are always served, and a fire is always burning. For a holiday or wedding in beautiful BC, we highly recommend Long Beach Lodge to complete your experience!

Most relaxing week in years

by A TripAdvisor Member

My wife and I just spent 5 days and four nights at the Long Beach Lodge (our kids stayed home with grandma, which was part of the reason it was so relaxing...), and this was by far the most pleasant and relaxing vacation experience we've ever had together. The staff was uniformly pleasant and friendly, without being fussy. The rooms are gorgeaous and uncommonly comfortable. The food is terrific, and I'm not sure you could ask for a more wonderful location. If you want to truly get away from it all, and have some time to sit back, read a few books and enjoy some tranquility, this lodge is our top choice.

Fantastic Vacation

by TripAdvisor Member Traveler-Kaye

My husband and I stayed at Long Beach Lodge in September 2004 and thought it was spectacular! The rooms were beautiful with a comfy bed, fireplace and soaker tub. You can open up the blinds between the bath and bedroom to enjoy the fireplace while soaking. It was heaven! Our beachfront room had a sliding glass door to a patio and a beautiful view of the ocean! We had the room right under the Great Room, so we had an overhang over our patio. That was nice when it rained the last evening, so we could open the patio door and listen to the rain while reading a book and having some tea. How relaxing!

We thoroughly enjoyed the beach as well - it was very quiet. We walked out at low tide and saw all kinds of sea anemones, sand dollars and other stuff (especially in tide pools in the rocks at the ends of the beach). The Tofino area is absolutely stunning! We went to the Pacific Rim park and had a leisurely walk through the Rain forest on our way to the beach. We saw huge trees that were hundreds of years old! If you go, be sure to take some expeditions to see the whales and the sea lions. We also took a wonderful kayak tour, which allowed us to see starfish and other marine life you won't see from a big boat.

I thoroughly enjoyed this vacation! My husband really wants to go back (we usually don't visit the same place twice, but we might make an exception!). This was truly a special trip for us.
