Bosmans Hotel is a great compromise between fancy hotels and hostels. The rooms are cheap, for hotel pricing. Not only are they cheap, but they are clean, comfortable, and within seconds of Granville's nightlife. Just a few blocks away is the shopping district on Robson. The 100 rooms are equipped with heat/air conditioning, cable tv, hairdryers, and clock radios. Certain floors are designated as non smoking. I would recommend this as an affordable, comfortable place to stay right in the heart of all the action in Vancouver.

 | | | | Ramada Inn and Suites Downtown: Art Deco? Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
This hotel in downtown Vancouver, built in 1906, has been described as "Art Deco". Well if "Art Deco" translates to "tiny rooms" then the Ramada certainly fits that description. The hotel's suites are supposedly larger, but they are still not the most adequately spaced rooms around. The Ramada Inn and Suites Downtown is in a prime location, but not the safest of locations. Granville Street is full of sex and drug paraphenalia shops in this area. Be careful late at night. Rooms come standard with: coffee and tea, iron, tv with cable and pay-per-view, data port telephones with voicemail, heat/air conditioning, daily newspaper delivery, and hairdryers. The Ramada is connected to Morrissey's Irish House, a very popular place to eat and drink. Aside from the "tiny rooms" aspect, the Ramada is a decent place to stay. It is probably not worth the money though.

 | | | | Canyon Court Inn And Suites: Perfectly Adequate Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
We were heading to Vancouver for a family function, at the height of the busy summer season, and could not find much under $200.00 a night in the area we wanted. After literally hours of searching, I came across Canyon Court Inn and Suites (which is now becoming a Comfort Inn), in North Vancouver. I had my doubts as we could not find much about this motel, but it turned out this place is SUCH a gem, we would not hesitate to stay here again. We received a rate of $119 per night, for the August long weekend, and that's with a kitchen as well.
This place appears to be family-run, and all employees were very pleasant and always inquiring if everything was ok. Hopefully, this will not change as the hotel becomes a Comfort Inn. The only problem we encountered was that their computer kept cancelling our card key, which was fairly inconvenient. However, it seemed that this system was new, and the staff were very apologetic. Our spacious suite was extremely clean, and appears to have been recently redecorated, and the bed was totally comfortable. There is also an outdoor pool that is clean and well-maintained. I can just describe this place as a nice, clean motel, that offers the basics -- perfect if you are gone all day long, and just come back to sleep. It is very conveniently located in North Vancouver, near the Lion's Gate Bridge, Lonsdale Quay, and shopping areas. The only down side is Capilano Road, where it is situated, is extremely busy. Ask for a room OFF THE ROAD. The motel entrance can only be approached from the right hand lane heading north, which makes it awkward if you are arriving from the Trans Canada, or if you are approaching heading south. Give the complimentary continental breakfast a miss, unless you like Tang and toast. There is a Dutch Pancake house that serves breakfast and lunch located next door at the Best Western. | | | | Sylvia Hotel: The Best location! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
If I were a visitor to Vancouver, rather than having the luxury to live here, I woulld definitely want to stay at the Sylvia hotel!
In an old-style stone architecture building, covered with ivy, it's got the absolute best location! Right downtown, but off the main busy streets, it is literally steps to beautiful English Bay and the Stanley Park seawall - a rollerblade around which in the summer is unbeatable! Lots of great restaurants and nightlife, and shopping within walking distance, as well as the beauty of Stanley Park. The price is also reasonable (at least it was years ago.., haven't checked lately).
