Sylvia Hotel: Sylvia Hotel in English Bay.
  • Tip Rating:
  • I don't know. I paid around $60-70.00 off season for basic room. Warning this hotel gets very booked-up, and it is advised to book way ahead of time. thats because it is small. this is just my opinion, its best to contact them about rates and booking.

It has been around for a long time. It has a nice view of English Bay. The food is nice and reasonably priced. The rooms, I have stayed in one in the off season and I think it was around $70/night. Just a nice atmosphere.

A great and cheap way to stay in Vancouver is in one of the hostels available. The Global Village Backpackers is a new hostel in Vancouver since 1999. It is located in downtown Vancouver has colourful atmosphere, rooftop deck and common areas provide an excellent opportunity for young travellers to meet and relax. Their goal is to provide the best value and the most exciting experience possible for guests in a safe, comfortable, clean atmosphere. There are other hostels like the HI-hostels and the Cambie hostels which are also great hostels.

These are all very clean and nice hostels with decent pricing (approximately $20 Canadian dollars) a night. Most have a nice meeting area with internet and much more. Most of them are located downtown or at least pretty close to the downtown core. They have great information and packages to do trips in and around Vancouver.
These are the hostels I recommend: *HI-hostels, downtown Vancouver (Hosteling International):
    1. Hi Hostel Downtown Vancouver
    2. Hi Hostel Central Vancouver
    3. %L[http://www.hihostels.ca/hostels/BC/BCRegion/VancouverJerichoBeach/Hostels/index.html
    ]Hi Hostel Jericho Beach

    *Cambie Hostels:
    1. Hostel in Gastown
    2. Hostel on Seymour

Don't go to CNN BACKPACKERS, not a nice area, dirty inside!!!! It is cheap, but you only get what you pay for. Just a warning for people who like neat and clean places!!!

Pacific Palisades Hotel - A Kimpton Hotel: Very Chic, Great Location   Compare Rates NEW!

  • This hotel looked awesome in the pictures; kind of different and modern and it didnt dissapoint at all. The colors and the decor were very "South Beachish" and the location is wonderful - right on Robson street just a short walk from tons of shopping and restaurants. There is a mini bar complete with snacks for very reasonable prices and a great selection.
The one thing I didnt like about this hotel was the very narrow hallways. Not that it was a big deal unless you had tons of luggage, then it might be kind of hard to maneuver.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Vancouver.

The Comfort Inn Downtown is a nice boutique-style hotel and I received a corner
room with views, a jacuzzi tub, a fireplace and complimentary paper & breakfast
in the the attached Irish Pub called Doolin's which served as a restaurant plus pub
& grill for lunch, dinner and awesome drinks. My waitress, Carey, was great and
when she delivered a tray of red-colored drinks to a table of guys watching the
NHL Hockey playoffs, I asked her what the drinks were and she said they were
"Red-Headed Sluts". I immediately ordered one and found it to my liking.

The rooms are spacious and clean as is the rest of the hotel.

I would recommend this hotel and I would stay here again.

Pleasant, helpful and knowledgable staff both in reception and the restaurant.

This boutique hotel has some great spots and one of them is in the lobby where they feature a large Salvador Dali "melted" clock.

This is a very, very nice hotel. When we arrived here we were exhausted from our 3 hour bus ride from Whistler and having stayed up too late the night before. The staff here was more than accomadating, making sure we had everything that we needed. The Hyatt's downtown location is also very nice, lending most of the rooms excellent views of the either the skyline or the harbor, most especially at night. It is also located within walking distance of the hippest street in the city, Robson St., where you can shop, eat, drink, and party in style to your heart's content.

There is a parking garage for guests, very comfortable beds, and they get an extra high rating on my bathrobe scale: We got 2!!!

The Listel Hotel: Vancouver's nicest small hotel   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:

  • Right from the valet who helped us with our bags and car, to the front desk clerk and bellhop, our initial impression of the Listel was very positive. We were assigned one of their "art rooms", the room was comfortable and included the typical hotel amenities as well as wireless internet access, but I found the really impressive features were; the art on the walls, our room showcased pop-artist "Robert Indiana" - it's quite something to share a hotel room with art of that quality. The other feature that I really liked was their coffee service, complementary and at your request they send up a coffee press with fantastic coffee. The staff that we met in the hotel and in the restaurant were really genuine and obviously interested in what they were doing - not just following the steps.

Obviously the art is a biggy, but also, in the restaurant they have live jazz - right up my alley.

  • Very nice and stylish, good quality hotel, close to the shops on Robson Street. Friendly and helpful staff, and an excellent restaurant (O'Doul's) attached.

If you stay on the "Gallery Floor" you can order a complimentary cafetiere of coffee or tea to be delivered to your room in the morning.

Currently offering quite good rates (CAD122/night for a double) if you make a reservation through their website (see below).

Gallery and museum art in the rooms.

There is no other hotel like the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. It was one of the first hotels built in the city and it is certainly one of the most recognizable buildings in the city skyline. Originally constructed in the late 1880's for the CPR to attract tourists arriving by train, the Hotel Vancouver is the top vintage hotel in the city, in my opinion. No other hotel in Vancouver has the history, architecture, and old world class than the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

I've always admired this hotel as a local resident. The architecture alone brings out the cameras. While I had attended a Christmas party here once and have had drinks in its luxurious lobby, I had never stayed here before. That was, until a Friday night in April 2005.

My boyfriend's company was throwing a corporate party at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver's "Roof" lounge on a Friday night. As a treat, he decided to book a room for us at the hotel for one night, even though we live a few blocks away! The Hotel Vancouver has always been fairy-tale like to me... and it was a dream come true to stay there!

We first checked in in the early evening. We stayed in a smoking suite on the 3rd floor facing the courtyard. As soon as we walked in, we realized this suite was larger than our apartment! We appreciated the old world beauty of the room quickly, and then went down to the main floor for dinner.

The lobby of the Hotel Vancouver has several choices. There's the 900 West Lounge, which is pretty upscale and adult-oriented. It has a full menu, a tapas menu, and a lengthy drink list. We had been there before, so I suggested checking out Griffins, their full menu sit-down restaurant.

The staff at the Hotel Vancouver provide excellent customer service! Their customer service is better than most hotels I've stayed at in my past. Everyone I spoke to was warm, friendly, and offered help if we needed it. . Even housekeeping in the morning, when she realized that we were still in our room, welcomed us with a "good morning!", and then offered to get us more coffee for our insuite coffee maker!

Inside the suite was decored with an old English style. There was dark wood furniture, luxrious armchairs, armoires, cabinets and tables. There was a large dresser with many drawers - ideal if you were staying longer.

The weekend newspaper (Globe & Mail) was hung on our door in a nice black cloth bag on Friday night so that on Saturday morning, we'd have something to read. There was a large, spacious, swing-door closet by the front door with hangers, an iron, and an ironing board.

In the bathroom were terry-cloth robes, with an assortment of good-quality bath products.
A nice touch was the French doors dividing the bedroom from the living room - it was quite spatious!

All people staying in the hotel have access to the gym and the rooftop swimming pool and courtyard. Our suite had two windows looking out to this swimming pool, and it looked quite nice!

For people on business, they actually provide quiet office spaces for those that want to work outside of their hotel suites.

Our room also had 2 TV's, a mini fridge with wet bar, and a tempting basket of snacks. Room service also had a tempting menu!

If you're looking to splurge a little on a vintage hotel in the most central location of downtown Vancouver where you can walk to most of the city's attractions, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver would be my choice!
