wrecks beach

by chitowngino

can you rent beach chairs there?

Re: wrecks beach

by yvr

Yes you can, and just to be clear about Wreck Beach be aware there is a an area where beach attire is not worn, in other words you walk around naked. There is also a beach for those that wish to wear clothing. As far as the rental of chairs, at Wreck Beach you can buy just about anything your heart desires.....Also be aware that the RCMP can and does make periodic visits to this beach.

Travel Tips for Vancouver

Sea Otters at Vancouver Aquarium.

by worldkiwi

The sea-otters in Vancouver Aquarium were the stars of the show the day I visted that place. It's hard to believe that these little critters were nearly slaughtered to the point of oblivion for their pelts! Thank goodness they are now protected.
These two sea-otters are drying out after a bit of a swim on a lovely warm Vancouver summer's day. If you want to visit the sea-otters in Vancouver, you'll need C$20 and you'll have to get to the aquarium in Stanley Park.

When you go through the Vancouver Airport be sure to have your camera ready! It is one of the most beautiful airports that I have ever seen. Once you land you will go through a long stretch of walking. You will come upon a waterful right before you reach customs. Get a shot of it now because you won't see it again until you fly back into Vancouver again. You can only get to it from your walk to customs from your plane. I always forget to take pictures along the way and regret it!!!!

Get a coffee and sit down in...

Get a coffee and sit down in Canada Place and take in the wonderful views and scenery...its mindblowing even on a rainy day...! I have a couple actually, the first is looking over Vancouver from the revolving restaurant, and seeing the vastness of the city, it was my first time there and the views absolutely blew me away...!! The second, was visiting the chinese gardens and perusing the streets of China town on a sunny October morning - but the ultimate for me was flying out of Vancouver harbour to Victoria with Baxter aviation, flying over Lions Gate bridge and seeing all the people milling around Stanley was fantastic...!!

Granville Island public Entertainment

by tvor

On Granville Island there are little squares where buskers are scheduled. The first one I saw was a wiry small man wearing tights, no shirt and a Harlequin hat, kneeling on a blanket that was lined with the words "Kinetic voice and body sculpture" Oh, so that's what he was doing. See, he was straining his limbs into the oddest positions and moaning and wailing. Shouldn't wonder it was because the ground was so cold! When he was done he pulled on 4 or 5 various shirts and tattered looking sweaters and a warm cap! Wandering around, I heard this odd haunting music. I found a little square and sat on a bench. There was an Asian fellow playing a Chinese Violin, so the sign said. He was playing what sounded like traditional Chinese melodies accompanied with music played as background on his sound system. Then he let loose with a corking rendition of Vivaldi's Spring and I was hooked! What a sound! I even bought a CD!

North of the Border

Vancouver is a pristine city with clean streets and friendly people. It was a bit shocking to me when I made my first visit at the age of 20 to see people smoking pot in public. But of course, Canada isn't as uptight as we are in the US.

I've only visited in spring and summer, and living the northwestern US, I think these are the most beautiful seasons in our part of the world. Though winter is, naturally, the ideal time to hit Whistler. Back in 1996, two friends and I drove up to see a show in the gorgeous, historic Orpheum Theatre.

Riding the ferry to Vancouver Island for a stay in Victoria is also a favorite thing to do.
