More about Best Western Downtown Vancouver
Loved this hotel

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights in early June and had an absolutely fabulous time there. We were upgraded to a King suite which was very roomy and had a kitchenette. We felt very safe and comforable in this hotel and the service was excellent.
It seems to be a very well run hotel. The location was excellent and we felt safe walking the streets at all times. Our rate included free underground parking and a breakfast at the Whitespot which in Vancouver is a good deal. We can hardly wait to go back.
No complaints at the Best Western

We stayed at the Best Western for 4 nights from Aug 6th. Having lived in Van in the 90's for one year I had good familiarity with the location. Vancouver is not that big a city that you can't cover most of it on foot but the English Bay area is best if you want easy access to some water and the park. You could stay over the other side looking at Grouse mountain but the 'character' is missing. Thoroughly recommend English Bay area. Doesn't feel like you are staying in a city.
As for the Best Western it was fine. Room was clean, neat and spacious. Stayed on the 1st floor facing the street. Didn't have a meal there so can't comment. Would we stay there again or recommend to our friends - yes.
Great Hotel

Stayed here for 6 nights during August and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Upon arrival we were impressed with how friendly the staff at the reception were. We were upgraded to a room with a King size bed and the room was to a very high standard with little extras like bottled water replaced each day, an umbrella for inclement weather and a safe for securing passports, money etc. The hotel is very modern with a freshness about it's appearance and fittings and I would say that it is the equal of many hotels in the area where you would spend a lot more to stay the night. The hotel also has it's own bikes which can be used for riding in nearby Stanley Park and the other easy cycle routes in the locality. Okay so the area around the hotel could be better but we never encountered any problems at all and we walked everywhere and returned late at night. On our last day we booked transport with the complimentary downtown drop off and when it failed to show after 15 minutes Adnan at the reception booked a taxi at the hotels expense despite us saying we would wait on the minibus. Another example of the service we received during our stay. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Vancouver and would stay here again should we travel to this area in the future.
Met All of Our Needs

This was our second trip to Vancouver, having previously stayed at a boutique hotel on Robson Street which was much more expensive. We felt that we got much better value on this trip by staying at the Best Western. The staff was friendly, the room was comfortable, and the location was ideal for touring the city on foot or by car (the free parking is an excellent reason to stay here). As an added perk, the hotel has four mountain bikes that guests can borrow at no cost for 2-hours at a time. We took them for a great ride through Stanley Park. We would certainly stay here again.
Travelscope vacation

Spent 2 nights at this hotel as part of a 9 day tour with travelscope. The Manager was very freindly as were his staff. Although the hotel is on Drake st the road parallel is Granville and this is very Seedy with people sleeping in doorways and lots of porn shops (not pawn shops) avoid this area and the place is lovely. Gastown clock is worth seeing on the hour it plays a wonderful steam tune. We had a fantasic meal at the marina, head out of the hotel main doors turn right and follow road down to marina. Turn left at water and follow path for about 500yds you will come to False creek and the Provence Marinaside restaurant. I had the Seafood Linguine, better than any meal i had in italy last year and only 17 dollars Fabulous. YOU MUST DO the vancouver island trip if you do this tour. The first four hours and the last two hours of the Rocky mountaineer trip from Whistler to Jasper are fabulous and you are constanly fed and watered but take a book or some music for the rest of the trip.
2nd Choice, but turned out good.

My wife and I stayed here for two days after deciding not to go to Victoria. We had stayed at another hotel for 3 days and tried to extend there, but was told that they were full.
I was very pleased with the Best Western. The only problem that we had was the elevator system, and after we figured that out, everything went well.
The rooms were very clean, and the beds very comfortable. If I stayed downtown again in Vancouver, I would stay here again.
Good hotel... beds... not so good.

We stayed in the downtown best western because we got a pretty good rate (83 bucks a night) and felt that we would be getting what we paid for. The hotel room was nice-- large windows (corner room) and a pretty good view... (if you don't look down at the alleyways) The hotel has a pretty nice hot tub on the penthouse floor-- along witha workout room and ping-pong table. The hot tub has a nice little view of the city-- a nice way to un-wind at the end of the day.
The downside--- the beds. The beds were very uncomfortable. We stayed in a standard queen room and had a hard time sleeping because the mattress was SO hard. Compared to a bed we slept in at a nicer hotel just days later-- the beds at the best western were terrible.
However, all-in-all it was a pretty good place to stay for the inexpensive cost. The area also isn't that great. It's off granville which at night can get a little sketchy... nothing terrible, just homeless people and some beggars, expected in any city.
Very poor service

We stayed at the Best Western on Drake in downtown Vancouver from October 9 through October 21. While we were pleased with the location and the room itself. We were very disappointed in the quality of service provided by the staff. The front desk staff seemed to be comprised of multiple young women who had no training in working with the public. On several occasions we needed assistance with entering the parking garage. The gate would not open with our room card after multiple attempts. When we buzzed to the front desk 5 times and no one answered, we had to back out of the garage, park, go into the lobby, find that no one was at the front desk, wait for the girl to come out. We said we had been trying to get in to the garage and also that we had been buzzing the desk repeatedly, she had no response. She just said "Oh". She told us that our card had expired - prior to our checkout date for some reason. The clerk had no apology or explanation or any response at all to our inconvenience. This was the demeanor of all of the girls at the front desk.
Also, we were never able to use the valet service - he never offered his services when he was there and the times that we asked for valet, we were told there was not one on duty at that time. So that service was one that had made the accomodations seem nice, but did not materialize for us. Also, we had tried on multiple occasions to use the phone in the room for outside calls. It never worked according to the directions on the phone, so we were forced to use our American cell phone for local calls. When we finally called down to the desk to inquire, same lack of any apology or response from the desk clerk. She told my husband to just follow the directions - which he tried again. When he called back she checked the line and said "oh, it's locked". No apology or sentiment for our inconvenience.
One morning, the hairdryer burned out and I called down to the desk for a new one. The maintenance person came and instead of bringing a new drier with him, he just checked the plug and the on/off switch, etc. - which I had already done. Then he had to leave and get a new dryer. In the meantime, I was late for an appointment and ended up having to leave without drying my hair - I would have had plenty of time if he had just brought a dryer with him the first time. We also had the unfortunate experience of having our rental car towed away while we were shopping. We took the bus back to the hotel to find out what to do and the clerk gave my husband entirely wrong directions to get to the tow lot to retrieve our car - when in fact it was right there near the hotel. It seems that these are all very common situations that the staff should be well versed in handling - nothing out of the ordinary, yet just the things that make the difference in the quality of service.
Having said all that, I would like to compliment the housekeeping staff for their services - always made up our room perfectly even when we had a lot of stuff everywhere.
Real value

We stayed here after coming off a cruise to Alaska. the hotel was great . The rooms were large with everything you need, fridge,TV,ironing board you name it it had it. Best of all it was clean and all non smoking. We paid £228 for 4 nights through Skoosh website. only downside was breakfast was not included but at £27 per person per night it was excellent value. We found walking to the ferry to granville island very close(don't go over the big bridge it's miles) Also Robson Street is a 10 min walk and half the price of Robson Street hotels. Theres a good cheap greek restuarant close by and try the Blues club over the road its great and free weekdays.
We stayed at the Best western uptown before our Cruise and although of an equivalent standard just a bit too far out of town .
Staff at both hotels were most helpful
