Quaint & Lovely

Old style hotel with a great location near Stanley Park and lots of great restaurants.

Do not stay at the Buchan!

Dormitory-style accommodations. Very old, outdated furnishings. Looks like an old, converted school. No phones in room. The staff are very friendly, though. The location is great just down the road from Stanley Park and off Denman St.

  • Opinion of Price: less expensive than average

More about Buchan Hotel

Our first night we stayed at...

by Witaduran

Our first night we stayed at the Buchan Hotel in the West End, a couple of blocks from restaurants and Stanley Park. The rest of the week we stayed in a timeshare unit at Mountainside Lodge in Whistler Village and loved it- right up in the mountains. You can hike from your front door. The historic Sylvia Hotel is close to Stanley Park, on English Bay and cheap ($55-77 single/double and $82-125 for a suite), but book well in advance it very popular! Ask for a corner unit for the view. Our last night we stayed at a spartan but very inexpensive dorm room at the University of British Columbia, call ahead, they really book fast.
I have no idea how much the timeshare unit usually goes for, but the University of BC dorm room was only $72 per night for three. Our unit at Mountainside was just gorgeous. It has a full kitchen, view of the mountain, and hot tub and fireplace in the master bedroom. There was no need for a car, the village provides shopping, groceries and restaurants.

airport transfer

WE are arriving at Van int airport at 2 pm. What are VT recommendations for transfers to our hotel (Buchan Hotel in Haro St, near Stanley Park).
There will probably be 4 adults together.

Definitely a taxi.

I agree with the above. Whenever I am in Vancouver, I either rent a car or take a taxi. I think the cost is in the $25 range, if I remember correctly. It's too far from the core to take the Skytrain.

You may find the taxi's in Vancouver a bit small for 4 adults with luggage. There are sometimes minivans but, you can't be sure.
Taxi's are now about $35 plus tip.
I would recommend an unreserved limousine for about $45 or a large sedan at $40

With 4 people splitting the cost, it's a taxi - with a tip, it will be around $32.

RAV line ( subway ) to Vancouver from airport to vancouver is 5.00 I think ( 2 zones)
Closest stop to buchan hotel would still be a heck of a jaunt( from davie to haro and denman could be a 20 minute luggage haul- yeck!
so with 4 of you given taxis will be about 25-30 I agree - probably makes send to take a cab

Q: Vancouver to Oakland Flight "Hi from Sydney, I am going to Canada in July and would like to go to San Fransisco by plane. I am also ok to fly from Belligham..."

A: "You could try Alegiant Air. They fly out of Bellingham and they are very reasonably priced. I think they fly nonstop to Oakland or San Francisco."
