Pleasant hotel, pleasant location

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on June 27, 2015

We stayed in the Days Inn Vancouver Metro for four nights, then travelled to Victoria for two nights, then returned to the Days Inn Vancouver Metro for four more nights.

To get to this hotel we took the Expo line from Waterfront to Nanaimo Station. From Nanaimo you can catch a 25 bus going towards UBC, but we tended to walk. To walk exit the station. With your back to the station go left. You will be going uphill through a pleasant residential area. Keep going straight till you reach Kingsway then go right. Walking along Kingsway you will pass several Vietnamese restaurants and a Dollarama before reaching the hotel. Total walking time is around 15 - 20 minutes. I enjoyed the walk.

The reception staff were friendly when we arrived and check in was quick and efficient. Our room was directly above reception facing the street. The room was clean and comfortable, but there was quite a lot of traffic noise.

In the room we had a large fridge and a coffee maker. Teas and coffee were provided.

The bed was comfortable, but it took me a while to get used to the traffic noise.

Our shower always had plenty of hot water.

The hotel's wifi was consistently good and the signal strong.

Breakfast consisted of cereal, bread for toasting, bagels, muffins, Danish pastries, apples, coffee, tea, juice and water. It was fine.

The biggest plus of this hotel for us was that when we went to Victoria for two days they were happy to store our bags. I was delighted by this as it made our trip to Victoria so much easier.

When we returned, we were given a room at the back of the hotel next to the sunken garden. This room was so much quieter than the one at the front of the hotel and I slept really well here. As well as the fridge and coffee maker, this room also had a microwave.

On the walk from the station when you arrive at Kingsway there is a convenience store which was good for sandwiches, across the road was a convenient liquor store.

The hotel was right next to a McDonalds if you want one of those. On one evening we walked right instead of left when we exited the hotel and kept going till we reached a pub called Cedar Cottage. We had great fish and chips here.

I found all the staff at Days Inn helpful and pleasant, the breakfast lady, the chamber maids, the receptionists. I liked the location and found it easy to get around. There was a bus to Stanley Park from just outside the hotel and to UBC. The skytrain was easy to reach.

I would happily stay here again.

We fouund this hotel by chance - just walked along the road looking for a place and this was one of the first we saw.... I was tired and we decided to take a chance on it.

Unique Quality: The people were friendly and helpful and of course it was a central place to stay.

Directions: in Downtown Vancouver

Okay accomodations; pricey for quality.

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)

This Hotel was clean and safe, but the rooms were quite small for the price of 95 american dallors, for triple occupancy and one of the beds being a cot. The location in the suburbs of Vancouver is quite poor although it is within a relative walking distance to a sky train station. The Coffe they provide in the morning is mostly hot water and the "Breakfast" consists of a voucher to the next door Mcdonald's of a muffin and juice. The attendents at the front desks were very friendly.

Unique Quality: Very nice courtyard.

Best Kept Secret

The person at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. He pointed out different areas where we could go to get our money exchanged, and it wasn't too far away from the mall or downtown. Rooms were small, but who cares, you're only sleeping there anyway.

Unique Quality: It has a courtyard in the middle of the hotel. We picked up a coupon booklet for hotels, and this was one of the places in there for $39.99 US a night. At first I was skeptical about how the place would be since it was so cheap. I can honestly say that it was better than some hotels in the $60 range, and they give you a voucher for a free muffin and drink at the McDonald's next door. It was great to be able to spend your money having fun instead of on a hotel.
