central place to stay

We fouund this hotel by chance - just walked along the road looking for a place and this was one of the first we saw.... I was tired and we decided to take a chance on it.

Unique Quality: The people were friendly and helpful and of course it was a central place to stay.

Okay accomodations; pricey for quality.

This Hotel was clean and safe, but the rooms were quite small for the price of 95 american dallors, for triple occupancy and one of the beds being a cot. The location in the suburbs of Vancouver is quite poor although it is within a relative walking distance to a sky train station. The Coffe they provide in the morning is mostly hot water and the "Breakfast" consists of a voucher to the next door Mcdonald's of a muffin and juice. The attendents at the front desks were very friendly.

Unique Quality: Very nice courtyard.

Best Kept Secret

The person at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. He pointed out different areas where we could go to get our money exchanged, and it wasn't too far away from the mall or downtown. Rooms were small, but who cares, you're only sleeping there anyway.

Unique Quality: It has a courtyard in the middle of the hotel. We picked up a coupon booklet for hotels, and this was one of the places in there for $39.99 US a night. At first I was skeptical about how the place would be since it was so cheap. I can honestly say that it was better than some hotels in the $60 range, and they give you a voucher for a free muffin and drink at the McDonald's next door. It was great to be able to spend your money having fun instead of on a hotel.

Parking Questions

by Daisylove

Hi,

I will be visiting Vancouver on April 27, 2010. I will be driving and wish to visit the few popular attractions such as Canada place, chinatown, english bay etc. May I know what is the parking situation there? Do they have metre parking or parking garage that charges the day rate? Any free parking?

Thanks

Re: Parking Questions

Street Parking is to be paid 8am to 9pm and runs up to $8/hr(depending on the area. Alot of streets are No Parking 7-930am and 330-6pm, always look at the meter and the signs on the lamp posts. Free Parking? Ha ha (Vancouver joke) Lots can be less or more again depending on the area. Full day can be $15-25. Be aware that petty theft from vehicles is rampant in certain downtown areas (too many to list). Put everything in the trunk or don't take it with you - a car with nothing shown inside is best

I recommend you park at a shopping mall outside of downtown and take public transit in and walk, it is a small city core and the subway and bus system work very well for the core.

Thank you for your advice.

How much does it cost to park at the shopping mall outside the downtown? Any recommendation? Because I have a 18 month old boy in tow. :)

Thanks

It is free. What part of town will you be staying in?

Re: Parking Questions

I am thinking of putting up at:

Days Inn - Vancouver Metro
2075 Kingsway
V5N 2T2 Vancouver (British Columbia)

I am staying over for a night there and do my city tour the next day. They will nto be charging for the parking but not sure if I am allow to leave my car there after I have check out. :)

If your staying that far out on Kingsway you could find free parking on side streets near the hotel. Not as many meter areas once you are outside the downtown core. From your hotel, you can take the the #19 Stanley Park bus right to the city center and on the return you can take it as #19 Metrotown. It will go through China town, within a few blocks of Canada Place. When your ready to go to English Bay from downtown, catch either the #6 Davie or #5 Robson and ride either to the end of the line Davie and Denman, and English Bay will be right there.

we stayed in a hotel on kingsway in burnaby in february. parked at metrotown and caught the train into downtown. no charge for the parking although there were signs prohibiting park and ride. we didnt have any problems though. the train is very efficient and convenient and there are a couple of lines to help move you about in the downtown area.

Re: Parking Questions

Don't park at Metrotown, signs are now posted, parking is valid for four hours only.

A: "You could try Alegiant Air. They fly out of Bellingham and they are very reasonably priced. I think they fly nonstop to Oakland or San Francisco."
