Need advise for bus trip in Vancouver
by suekenramby
I want to have a 2-day trip by bus in Vancouver in May 2010. I need some expert advice for my plan that I can visit most spots in limited time. I will get off my cruise around 9 am on Saturday, and arrive airport before 5 pm on Sunday. Staying in Executive airport express hotel. Please help.

You don't say what kind of bus trip you are looking for. If you are looking for tours around Vancouver there are many to choose from. Your hotel should have information on that. Since your staying outside the downtown area you will need to take the Canada Line into the city centre. You can pick up tours of Vancouver at most hotels. There is the hop on hop off buses, and regular guided tours. If you are thinking about a bus trip outside Vancouver, you might want to go to Victoria on Vancouver Island. You can do this by Pacific Coach Lines, see their web site for information and prices. I would suggest that you stick to Vancouver, you can most of the area in the time you have. Stanley Park, Grouse Mountain, Gastown, Chinatown, Granville Island, Robson Street. If you like shopping go to Metrotown, largest shopping center in BC, you can get there by Skytrain, a 15 minute ride from downtown. If you can change your hotel to one in the downtown city center you would certainly save some time for touring.

Travel Tips for Vancouver
Fountains
by penumbra
Many of the office and apartment buildings in the downtown core have fountains outside their buildings. At first you only notice the larger ones but over the weeks you realize that this has become an art form in Vancouver. At night, they’re illuminated and look completely different, so you have to make to the rounds to see them again.

Stroll along English Bay - the downtown beach. Rollerblade around Stanley Park. Be hip and cool down at Kittsalano Beach. Get to Wreck (UBC) Beach - the nude one! (you know what to do!!) Play volleyball at Jericho Beach.
Ski at Whistler or Snowboard at Cypress, do the Grouse Grind (leisure types will prefer the SkyRide), peer down from Capillano Bridge, hang around the Art Museum, watch ships come in at Harbourfront (steer clear of Gastown), take a water taxi (ferry) to shop for trinkets on Granville Island.
Go dancing, enjoy dinner, smoke a joint, have a drink....this city has it all! See above. Sooo much to do - sooo much to miss!!

Spend the day in Stanley Park - walk around the seawall (about 2 hours), swim in the ocean or the outdoor pool, stroll nature's pathways through the park, rent a bike and cycle, stop for fish and chips on the beach while watching the big cruise-ships go by, see the gardens in bloom, watch the sun go down while sipping on an iced latte... Whenever I come back to Vancouver from anywhere, I realize how much I love the air, the green, the sight of the ocean, mountains and the parks, and that this is accessible to anyone!

Try out some of the tiny Asian restaurants. I would often get back to the hotel after events at after 11 pm, famished after avoiding the super expensive food at GM place. Some are better than others, (and unfortunately I don't remember any names), but half the fun is figuring out which ones you like :)
Tourist Information Centre - Very Helpful
by Mikebb
We usually try to visit the Tourist Info Centre the first day of arrival and have a browse through the displays to see what the city and surrounding districts offer.
Normally I complete plenty of research over the months before we travel using the internet travel sites and travel guides from our local librarary, however I have found a short discussion with the Information Centre staff always produces some good local attractions that I had missed.
If you are checking for day trips, particularly using local public transport their advice is invaluable usually providing bus, ferry and train timetables , brochures etc etc. We found the staff at the Vancouver centre to be very helpful.
Tourist Information Centre Location: Plaza Level, 200 Burrard St, Downtown, Vancouver. It is just over the road fron Canada Place and the Cruise Boat Terminal. Open 8:30 am -6:00 pm daily. Phone 604 683 2000 Web: Tourismvancouver.com
