Good, safe, and cheap accommo
The HI Hostel is located in the West End of Downtown, about 3 blocks from the beach, and English Bay.
I had visitors stay there for 3 days, and they were very happy with the place. It was cheap, clean and a good central place to be. It is within walking distance of English Bay, Denman, Robson, Stanley Park, etc.
Unique Quality: Location location. This place is well located for any traveller, whether you want to head up to the mountains, explore the city, or walk the beach.

Backpacker accommodation in Vancouver.
Shocked by the expense of accommodation in North America, I decided to save money by taking advantage of my HI membership and staying in HI hostels in the major cities I would stop in. HI Vancouver Downtown was my first North American base.
The hostel dorms are a little cramped - four bunks in a narrow room, but the lockers are a fair size to stow big backpacks in. The bathrooms are adequate. The hostel is located off the colurful Davies Street, not actually in the city centre, but more in a residential area, which makes the area feel nicer at night. Bus #6 is your main route into town and from there you can easily explore Vancouver. The trip to/from the city centre / waterfront is about 15 minutes out of peak traffic time.
Unique Quality: What lifted my stay here from the ordinary to the above ordinary was the wonderful breakfasts at the hostel. Apart from one or two outstanding hostels in southern Europe, I have never encountered such good quality breakfasts. To label the breakfast a buffet is entirely accurate, with cereals, delicious porridge, toast, muffins, bagels and fresh fruit all laid out. It really was unexpected and a great way to start a busy day of sightseeing.
The staff at this hostel are really friendly and helpful as well.

A great place to stay!
This hostel is gigantic and so is its kitchen. I tried both the dorms (4 persons) and the private room and both were perfect to me.
The hostel has an indoor parking and you have to ask the staff to get the key. It also has 3 (I think) outdoor parking spaces. It has elevators as well.
Nothing negative to say about this place, it's everything a hostel should be.

Great Breakfast and good atmosphere

The hostel had a fun loving atmosphere with plenty of knowledgable staff and a free breakfast for all residents and the private room I stayed in was clean, tidy and very presentable with a TV and private shower for about $70. Very enjoyable

Hostelling International
Hostelling International - Downtown Vancouver.
This was a very nice hostel. Rooms were clean. Staff was helpful. Grocery stores and restaurants were right next door on Davie St. Many attractions were in walking distance. It was comfortable here...I didn't really feel like packing up and moving on to the next place.
Unique Quality: Travel Cuts desk inside helps with transportation. I bought bus tickets there before leaving for the station.
