Arbutus Vista Vancouver bed and breakfast: Business trip alternative!
I spent 2 weeks at this B&B during a recent business trip in Vancouver. The space was great, very clean and well decorated. It had all the facilities I needed for my business: phone line, high speed internet, fax etc... There was a small laptop in the suite but I connected mine instead to the provided ADSL line (more useful to me). I had several business meetings in the spacious living room, very handy! Both hosts were very nice and tried to think of anything they could do to make my stay better. I did not need the breakfast so I cannot comment on the food. However, there was a welcome basket (fresh fruits, cookies, biscotti, etc) in the living room, much appreciated after a long flight from Hong Kong, and coffee was provided every day. The bedroom was very comfortable and quiet, the private bathroom is the typical 5 pieces set and there is a very handy kitchenette in a corner of the living room, which I did not really use, except for the fridge and microwave. This B&B is a very nice alternative to a 5 star hotel! I will be back and I recommend it to others!
The location is very nice: residential neighborhood, quiet and pretty, only a few minutes away from the downtown core or from the airport. Very large suite, super comfortable and totally independant. Business facilities (high speed internet, phone line, fax service, space for business meetings...). The laptop provided is OK but bring your own for full productivity (free connection to an ADSL line is provided)! One nice thing to mention is that I got the whole suite for myself, I did not have to share any space with any other guest and it was like having my own appartment...

The Spinning Wheel Inn: Quite noisy
On Carrol street above The Party Zone bar is a small hotel with rooms that include a fridge cooking facilities and tv. They can be rented by the day, week or month. The only downside was the music from the bar underneath which got quite loud and didn't stop until 2:00 am.

Rental Accommodation in Vancouver: Looking for a place to rent?
If you're visiting Vancouver for an extended time or actually moving here then you very likely will be searching for a place to rent. Here are some of the top places to look:
An interesting thing about Vancouver is that many places offer month-to-month rentals. You just need to give one month's notice and then you're free to leave. Some still try to lock you in to a 1-year lease but enough don't that you should have some bargaining power. Because there's nothing worse than moving into a place and then realizing you don't like it.

Quality Inn Airport South: Another good option in Richmond
When I found out I'd be going back to the Canadian Karate Championship, I thought I'd stay at the same hotel I stayed at the last time, but when I found a better deal at the Quality Inn right next door, I decided to give it a try. The first thing I need to mention is that the staff working at the front desk was extremely friendly and efficient. The room was very comfortable, especially the bed, and incredibly quiet. Free continental breakfast was included, and the breakfast area was really nice - so much so that one evening, we decided to order some take-out and ate it there. We got a bottle of wine from the liquor store across the street, and the music that was playing in the lobby made for a really nice atmosphere :o) The location is great: it's just a short ride away from the airport (free shuttles are available), just a short walk away from the Olympic Oval, about a 10-min walk from the Richmond Shopping Centre and Lansdowne skytrain station, and there are several good restaurants around. Again, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in the Richmond area.

The Cambie: Funky hostel
Ok before staying in this hostel, I had never been in one so, i didn't know what to expect. It was cheap, well located, had a bar, DJ and friendly staff but the rooms were not pretty. I must confess at that time I didn't like it at all but now that I have travelled more, I think it's a great option for cheap accommodation and free continental breakfast! It has its own bakery so, bread is always fresh.

Admiral Anson Guest House: Great Value for Vancouver and near Skytrain
Hi: We are new to this but find the best stuff is through recomendations. We stayed for a week at the "Guest House" which is a Bed and Breakfast. It's not in downtown Vancouver but we found it quieter, less expensive and in the middle of other areas we wanted to check out while in the area. The rooms are cozy, some with bathrooms and other shared. Each room has a sink which turned out to be quite handy. We some racoons in the back yard. Breakfast was great and Jody was super friendly.
Rooms, rates, food and especially trying their honey which they produce. A fun, place to stay. And an interesting mix of people too. Great back yard to BBQ in. Hosts very funny and knew cool places to go.

River Rock Casino Resort: Large Casino & All Suite Resort Close to Airport
Spent a night here 10/18/05, just a few months after it's grand opening.
Great spot that combines large, well appointed suites, with a huge casino and all very close to the airport on the banks of the Fraser River. The resort has it's own marina.
I didn't explore the hotel as well as I usually do, got a little distracted by the casino. But the suite was well appointed with 2 TVs, bathrobes, king bed. It is in the same building as the casino, so you have access to the 9 restaurants and lounges. The night I stayed, a great blues trio played in one of the lounges.
My only complaint is they don't have a shuttle bus for the airport. They are working on it and in the meantime will pay the taxi for you or reimburse you if that's easier. I stayed at the last of their introductory packages for $129 CAD/night. Spoke with the manager and he said regular rates were going to run between $139 and $149/CAD. So this is comparable with the other airport hotels and you get a suite and a casino to play in.
Of course, I more than contributed to the local economy at the casino.
A large indoor pool with several water slides and a good sized fitness club.

Conferences and Accommodation at UBC: Stay at UBC for cheap!
To save some money a good option in Vancouver is staying at UBC. In the summer, the dormatories and conference housing opens as a hotel/hostel for anyone. The accomadations go from a single dorm in a suite of six rooms with a shared bathroom, to a large 7-person suite with TV and kitchen and multiple bathrooms. I stayed in the dormatories and they were as all college dormatories are: bare, but adequate. It is located on the UBC campus, which is a couple of miles away from downtown, but is in a great area of Vancouver. They have free parking next to the buildings. Reservations available on-line.
Nothing too unique, but it is a good price for Vancouver

Priceline: Cheap Accomadation Tip
Ever wanted to stay at the Westin but could never afford it? I'm sure you've checked out Priceline at some point but you may have been put off by the element of risk. While not knowing where to stay or how much to bid are obvious worries there is an answer.
The link below will take you to a forum (lots more destiantions included) where you can get bidding help and know the hotels Priceline use in advance. Four star hotels generally go for between $45 - $60US or less and three stars for $40 - $50 US much cheaper than anywhere else you're likley to find.

The Delta Whistler Resort: Luxury that's worth the extra cost!
This place is wonderful. It's located in Whistler Village at the base of Whistler Mountain. It is just steps away from the gondola to either Blackcomb or Whistler Mountain ski areas. It's pricey, but not as bad as the Pan Pacific, or Chateau Whistler which are very close by.
They have all the amenities you could want here with pools, spas, shopping, dining and more. They also have wonderful views.

Crowne Plaza Hotel Georgia: Crowne Plaza Hotel Georgia
Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. The service is very good, and the lobby is pretty. The rooms are small, as it is an old hotel, but they are clean and nice and the bed was comfortable. We did not have a view, to speak of. The room had a cd player and a nice tv. They advertise a nightclub in the basement, which was out of business when we were there. We did not use room service, movies or play video games, as there is way too much to do outside in the neighborhood.
The best thing about this hotel, aside from clean comfortable (small) rooms is its location. There is a lot you can do within a couple blocks' walk.
