Vancouver and orca trip

by xxSam12xx

Me and my boyfriend would like to visit vancouver, i have no idea where to start. ive found a kayaking 3 day trip in johnstone strait. on the site it says to go to either Quadra Island or departure dock in Campbell River. Does this mean anything to anyone? :/ how would i get there and roughly how much would it cost?

we would hope to stay in vancouver for 3-4 nights then move on to the orca trip. Where would be a good location to stay and what else is there to do? im looking for some inspiration as this will be a one and only trip i guess so i want to make the most of it! :D

Thank you

Vancouver has lot's of hotels downtown. but it can be pricey,I can help you with your trip to Campbell river.just go to the greyhound bus depot buy a one way ticket to Campbell river it will take you from downtown to horseshoe bay ferry then across to nanaimo. change bus then 2.5 hours to Campbell river.there is a small ferry that goes across to Quadra. as for your kayaking trip phone your get details .ferry info have fun...

Campbell River is a small town on the east coast of Vancouver Island. You would take the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo and then drive north ( about 1h 45m ) up to Campbell River. If you don't have a car then you will have to use buses to get from Nanaimo to Campbell River. Island Coach lines runs from Victoria all the way up to Port Hardy.

I've gone fishing in the Campbell river area and enjoyed the trips. As I remember the town is small and not very exciting. The waters around Campbell river have very strong currents so weather can always be a question mark. I have never kayaked so I'm not sure if the currents affect them much but they certainly affected us in a small power boat. If you have a chance try the salmon fishing as it is excellent. There are numerous lodges that are situated right on the water that sound fun. To be safe I would wear a partial wet suit as the waters are very cold.

Travel Tips for Vancouver

A Wonderful Place

What a fantastic city! If you can manage to see as much of Vancouver away from the bustling city centre, then I'm sure you'll have a truly astonishing time. Some of the natural beauties on offer are beautiful, and 'tis an amazing experience, horse riding bareback on an open plain. I was fortunate enough to be staying on a family member's ranch, and once I was comfortable with the area and the wildlife, it was breathtaking to be able to arise at the crack of dawn (cockeril assisted) and jump on a horse galloping through the fields.

Take in the water front and all the local splender.
There is sailing , Scuba diving, fishing..... etc. etc...not to mention the inland sports: skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, golfing. And may I add that most of these sports can be done year round.... With the exception of the winter sports in the summer. Living in Vancouver is a fond memory in itself. Spending time in, on or around the ocean does it for us.

walk around Stanley Park. It is beautiful and relaxing, I can't think of a better way to adjust to the Vancouver atmosphere. I really like walking the length of the beach at the UBC can see the city, the mountains and the water, just perfect!

Go CD shopping! For some reason Canada and Vancouver in particular has some of the cheapest CD prices in the world. Most new releases go on sale for about $14 - $17 Cdn ( $9 - $12 US). It is a real bargain for those coming from Europe, Australia or Mexico. The Virgin Store on Robson is probably the nicest, but is a usually a dollar or two more expensive. Best prices and selection are usually at A&B Sound on Seymour St. Other good choices: HMV, Future Shop. Most stores will let you try before you buy as well, so you can listen to the whole CD in the store to decide if you want to buy it.
