More about Sunset Inn and Suites
Great value for pleasant dreeams
by TripAdvisor Member sablatt
My family very much enjoyed our stay at the Sunset Inn & Suites. The suites were not beautiful, but they were spacious and very quiet at night. The hotel was very accommodating when we had to cancel one of our suites after just one night because of a family emergency. The parking was great, and we loved the neighborhood. Just a block away is a lively street with restaurants, shops, and friendly people. For its price and location, I don't think the Sunset Inn could be beat.
this is it!!!

if you are a couple, family or alone, on holiday or moving to Vancouver, this is it! an appartment to live in, full kitchen, free WiFi, free parking, etc...you go in and out a residential like building, except for these guys at the front desk. They will go above and beyond to advise you about anything and everything from restaurants to city tours, bikes renting, what to do where to go. We were a family of four, and we didn't make a move before asking Paul or Michael, they will book your seats anywhere, taxis, movies, ferries...Paul will even teach you how to fix your computer, frrrrreee of charge, and park your car, AND hold your baby!
Everything is close by, within a walking distance, Stanley park, Granville island, the beach, grocery store etc...we were so confortable.
We met a couple also moving to Vancouver, they were staying there for a month, great deals on the monthly rates, they said by chance we were walking around the neighborhood and saw the monthly sign upfront and just went in.
Good work guys, keep it up.

Location/Comfort/Service

Our family of 6 began our BC adventure in Vancouver and felt the Sunset was in a convenient, quiet location on the edge of Davie Village in the West End of Vancouver. 3or 4 blocks from the beach, a nice walk to the Second Beach pool and Stanley park. a quick water taxi ride to Granview Island, restaurants (and pastry shops!) for every taste. We stayed in a large one bedroom, which meant a surprisingly comfortable Q bed and 2 pull-outs in the living room, a kitchen equipped with fridge/stove/microwave oven, a dining area and a neat little balcony. A few blocks away, the area has a large, quiet, population of gay residents, and along with that some eye-popping storefronts here and there, but they were generally not noticed by our 10-14 year olds. This side of the city was an interesting choice, away from the hustle bustle of center city but alive with other visitors and residents. The staff was very helpful and never looked like they were dismayed when my kids stormed the cookies set out in the morning. That and coffee were the daily offering. They also have, if you ask, dollar-off coupons for the aquarium.
Great for teenage family

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sunset Inn in Vancouver from Aug. 21 to 26. It is located on a very quiet resedential street, but still only a few walking blocks to downtown. We had stayed the previous three nights at the Century Plaza Hotel on Burrard Street and found it very noisy from the seventh floor facing Burrard. I could even hear people talking outside on the sidewalk during the night. The Sunset Inn was welcome relief.
My husband, myself and our teenage son and daughter stayed in a large one bedroom suite at the Sunset. The large suite had two pull-out sofa beds in the large living room which was great because our two teenagers didn't want to share a bed together. My husband and I shared a good sized private bedroom with a nice dresser and a large closet. This set up worked very well when the two teenagers wanted to stay up late watching T.V. in the living room and we wanted to go to bed earlier.
Our suite at the Sunset was a complete apartment. It had a fully stocked kitchen with lots of cupboards and counter tops for food storage, a lovely dinette area with a table and four chairs, full bathroom and two storage and linen closets to store the sofabed sheets and blankets during the day. We were able to save money by buying food, having all breakfasts in the suite and even making sandwiches for daytrips to Whistler and Victoria. We cooked one full supper in the suite, heated up leftovers in the microwave another night and went out for most other evening meals. The full kitchen would be great for a family with infants or younger children also.
We had a rental car for most of our stay and the gated, secure parking at the rear of the building was FREE! (Only free parking in the city!) The staff was very helpful with excursion planning and even showed us a newly renovated executive suite on the upper floors. The executive rooms are gorgeous with strip laminate hardwood floors, new kitchen cupboards, new furniture and bedding. We were told that all units on all floors in the building will be renovated this year. Our room wasn't a renovated one, but it was still clean, roomy and very good value for the money.
We would highly recommend this hotel (which is really like a full apartment building) to anyone- couples, families or the business traveller. They also have monthly rates for families relocating to Vancouver. Location is excellent and well removed from the crowds and noise of Burrard Street. Our eldest son now lives in Vancouver and we plan to stay at the Sunset Inn next time we visit him.
Fantastic at Sunset

We stayed here precruise for 3 nights 6th, 7th & 8th Aug & 2 nights post cruise 16th & 17th Aug. What a fantastic place. Front office staff were not only helpful but friendly with it...a rare combination these days. Housekeeping staff were excellent. We appreciated the free car parking, newspaper, washing powder & laundry at low cost that was open 24 hours. Some of the rooms could do with a spruce up but we've stayed in far worse for a lot more money. Location was excellent...so quiet, great blockout curtains & some of the best restaurants/take outs within a 3 minute walk. 20 mins walk from Stanley Park & 10 mins walk to the beach & the Granville Island Ferry. Whilst there - I checked out the other hotels that we had looked at on the net before we left......Barclay, Landmark etc on Robson St for a lot more money per night & I actually thought our location & restaurants etc were heaps better than that area.
Highly recommended.
Great value for the area!!!

I stayed in a 1 BR suite. the units were large and clean with full kitchens. Its an old building, but the units are renovated and clean. I dont think there is a better deal in the area!! i felt safe walking in the area and there is free parking, which is hard to find in the area! There is a really good variety of restaurants and nightlife in the area. I felt like it was a home away from home.
Good...till the end..

I really liked this hotel for the money. We were near loads of great resturants and bars. The rooms were ok, clean and everything you needed. We did however have a problem at the end with one or our suit cases that we left on the floor, unfortunatly the water from the shower must of leaked through the floor on the other side of the wall, we did not notice this till we left (5 days later). The suitcase stank of damp and my clothes on the bottom smelt of damp too.
We did complain but all they did was apoligise and seemed more concerned about the room, we should of got them to replace our suitcase as I have now thrown it away as it smells too bad.
Apart from that though this is a good hotel.
