 | Sunset Inn and Suites: Nice Apartment Hotel

The Sunset Suites is a good choice if you want to stay in Downtown Vancouver, but slightly off the tourist path. It is located just a short block from Davie Street, which has a good selection of cheap restaurants. I find Davie Street to be a more interesting street than the more famous Robson Street. Robson is too upscale for my taste. Davie has a much more casual, laid back feel to it. As for the Sunset Inn and Suites, you feel like you're in an apartment in whichever room you choose. We've stayed in both their Studio and One Bedroon Suites, and they've both been very nice. Every suite comes with a full kitchen, that includes stove, microwave, sink, full size fridge, and a nice assortment of plates, bowls, silverware, etc. The Studios have a small table in front of the kitchen and a combo bedroom/living room off to the side. The one bedroom units have a seperate bedroom with a door, a larger dining area, and a much larger living room. To me the best thing about the Sunset Suites is the view. I always request a room on an upper floor. To the north you get a great view of downtown Vancouver and the Coast Range behind it. South facing rooms get a view of False Creek and English Bay. The one downside to staying here is that most of the bedrooms face an alley. We've seen the occasional homeless person looking through the trash bins, and the truck traffic can be noisy at times. On our last visit, we had to stay on a lower floor, and the noise from the alley was more noticable. When we've been on an upper floor, it was never a problem. But aside from that, I find the Sunset Inn and Suites to be a fine place to stay. Friendly staff, a nice apartment like feel, and a great West End location, all for a reasonable price by Vancouver standards.
