    apt living in great location

    by

We just came back from a few days in Vancouver and stayed at the Sunset Inn & Suites. It's located just off of Davies street which is lined with lots of great restaurants that are within budget. There's also a grocery store and pharmacy in the neighbourhood. The location was awesome for us and as we love to walk we were at a good spot to hit many areas of the city. As the hotel was at one time an apartment building, the suites are apartment sized. We stayed in a standard one bedroom suite which was very cozy. It was great to have a living room and separate bedroom and a kitchen in the suite to keep drinks and snacks chilled. The elevators are very small and you have to schlep your own bags, but I would definitely stay at the Sunset Inn again. Some of the rooms overlook the alleyway, so you might ask for a room facing the other direction. We were on the 6th floor facing the alley and I was surprised at how quiet the street was as I expected a lot more street traffic. The price during the week was reasonable and with a CAA or AAA card you can get a discount.

Unique Quality: The best quality of this inn would be the layout of the rooms as they are not standard hotel rooms. They are apartments that are nicely furnished. The building also provides gated parking behind the building and indoor parking as well which are free for guests. The location is another selling point for this hotel. It's located on a quiet residential street and has a relaxed atmosphere about it.

Directions: Its just of of Davies Street. Don't know exactly how to get there if driving.

    Nice Apartment Hotel

    by

The Sunset Suites is a good choice if you want to stay in Downtown Vancouver, but slightly off the tourist path. It is located just a short block from Davie Street, which has a good selection of cheap restaurants. I find Davie Street to be a more interesting street than the more famous Robson Street. Robson is too upscale for my taste. Davie has a much more casual, laid back feel to it.

As for the Sunset Inn and Suites, you feel like you're in an apartment in whichever room you choose. We've stayed in both their Studio and One Bedroon Suites, and they've both been very nice. Every suite comes with a full kitchen, that includes stove, microwave, sink, full size fridge, and a nice assortment of plates, bowls, silverware, etc. The Studios have a small table in front of the kitchen and a combo bedroom/living room off to the side. The one bedroom units have a seperate bedroom with a door, a larger dining area, and a much larger living room.

To me the best thing about the Sunset Suites is the view. I always request a room on an upper floor. To the north you get a great view of downtown Vancouver and the Coast Range behind it. South facing rooms get a view of False Creek and English Bay.

The one downside to staying here is that most of the bedrooms face an alley. We've seen the occasional homeless person looking through the trash bins, and the truck traffic can be noisy at times. On our last visit, we had to stay on a lower floor, and the noise from the alley was more noticable. When we've been on an upper floor, it was never a problem.

But aside from that, I find the Sunset Inn and Suites to be a fine place to stay. Friendly staff, a nice apartment like feel, and a great West End location, all for a reasonable price by Vancouver standards.

  • Well-equipped suites, great location

    by

My retired parents have stayed here several times over the last 5 years, usually in the Standard One Bedroom, once in the Executive One Bedroom. Great to have a full-service kitchen and regular-sized fridge, even if you are just getting take-out from one of the many restaurants around the corner.

The Executive suites are much more attractively furnished with newer furniture and fixtures, but we were fine with the Standard.

Location is great. Walking distance to the Seawall, easy access to beaches, downtown shopping and Stanley Park. Davie Street is a block away with many varied and inexpensive restaurants as well as late night grocery stores and drugstore.

Great value for pleasant dreeams

by TripAdvisor Member sablatt

My family very much enjoyed our stay at the Sunset Inn & Suites. The suites were not beautiful, but they were spacious and very quiet at night. The hotel was very accommodating when we had to cancel one of our suites after just one night because of a family emergency. The parking was great, and we loved the neighborhood. Just a block away is a lively street with restaurants, shops, and friendly people. For its price and location, I don't think the Sunset Inn could be beat.

this is it!!!

if you are a couple, family or alone, on holiday or moving to Vancouver, this is it! an appartment to live in, full kitchen, free WiFi, free parking, etc...you go in and out a residential like building, except for these guys at the front desk. They will go above and beyond to advise you about anything and everything from restaurants to city tours, bikes renting, what to do where to go. We were a family of four, and we didn't make a move before asking Paul or Michael, they will book your seats anywhere, taxis, movies, ferries...Paul will even teach you how to fix your computer, frrrrreee of charge, and park your car, AND hold your baby!
Everything is close by, within a walking distance, Stanley park, Granville island, the beach, grocery store etc...we were so confortable.
We met a couple also moving to Vancouver, they were staying there for a month, great deals on the monthly rates, they said by chance we were walking around the neighborhood and saw the monthly sign upfront and just went in.
Good work guys, keep it up.

Location/Comfort/Service

by TripAdvisor Member famof6

Our family of 6 began our BC adventure in Vancouver and felt the Sunset was in a convenient, quiet location on the edge of Davie Village in the West End of Vancouver. 3or 4 blocks from the beach, a nice walk to the Second Beach pool and Stanley park. a quick water taxi ride to Granview Island, restaurants (and pastry shops!) for every taste. We stayed in a large one bedroom, which meant a surprisingly comfortable Q bed and 2 pull-outs in the living room, a kitchen equipped with fridge/stove/microwave oven, a dining area and a neat little balcony. A few blocks away, the area has a large, quiet, population of gay residents, and along with that some eye-popping storefronts here and there, but they were generally not noticed by our 10-14 year olds. This side of the city was an interesting choice, away from the hustle bustle of center city but alive with other visitors and residents. The staff was very helpful and never looked like they were dismayed when my kids stormed the cookies set out in the morning. That and coffee were the daily offering. They also have, if you ask, dollar-off coupons for the aquarium.

Great for teenage family

by TripAdvisor Member 51mom

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sunset Inn in Vancouver from Aug. 21 to 26. It is located on a very quiet resedential street, but still only a few walking blocks to downtown. We had stayed the previous three nights at the Century Plaza Hotel on Burrard Street and found it very noisy from the seventh floor facing Burrard. I could even hear people talking outside on the sidewalk during the night. The Sunset Inn was welcome relief.
My husband, myself and our teenage son and daughter stayed in a large one bedroom suite at the Sunset. The large suite had two pull-out sofa beds in the large living room which was great because our two teenagers didn't want to share a bed together. My husband and I shared a good sized private bedroom with a nice dresser and a large closet. This set up worked very well when the two teenagers wanted to stay up late watching T.V. in the living room and we wanted to go to bed earlier.
Our suite at the Sunset was a complete apartment. It had a fully stocked kitchen with lots of cupboards and counter tops for food storage, a lovely dinette area with a table and four chairs, full bathroom and two storage and linen closets to store the sofabed sheets and blankets during the day. We were able to save money by buying food, having all breakfasts in the suite and even making sandwiches for daytrips to Whistler and Victoria. We cooked one full supper in the suite, heated up leftovers in the microwave another night and went out for most other evening meals. The full kitchen would be great for a family with infants or younger children also.
We had a rental car for most of our stay and the gated, secure parking at the rear of the building was FREE! (Only free parking in the city!) The staff was very helpful with excursion planning and even showed us a newly renovated executive suite on the upper floors. The executive rooms are gorgeous with strip laminate hardwood floors, new kitchen cupboards, new furniture and bedding. We were told that all units on all floors in the building will be renovated this year. Our room wasn't a renovated one, but it was still clean, roomy and very good value for the money.
We would highly recommend this hotel (which is really like a full apartment building) to anyone- couples, families or the business traveller. They also have monthly rates for families relocating to Vancouver. Location is excellent and well removed from the crowds and noise of Burrard Street. Our eldest son now lives in Vancouver and we plan to stay at the Sunset Inn next time we visit him.

Fantastic at Sunset

by TripAdvisor Member eurock

We stayed here precruise for 3 nights 6th, 7th & 8th Aug & 2 nights post cruise 16th & 17th Aug. What a fantastic place. Front office staff were not only helpful but friendly with it...a rare combination these days. Housekeeping staff were excellent. We appreciated the free car parking, newspaper, washing powder & laundry at low cost that was open 24 hours. Some of the rooms could do with a spruce up but we've stayed in far worse for a lot more money. Location was excellent...so quiet, great blockout curtains & some of the best restaurants/take outs within a 3 minute walk. 20 mins walk from Stanley Park & 10 mins walk to the beach & the Granville Island Ferry. Whilst there - I checked out the other hotels that we had looked at on the net before we left......Barclay, Landmark etc on Robson St for a lot more money per night & I actually thought our location & restaurants etc were heaps better than that area.
Highly recommended.

Great value for the area!!!

by TripAdvisor Member poiboiz

I stayed in a 1 BR suite. the units were large and clean with full kitchens. Its an old building, but the units are renovated and clean. I dont think there is a better deal in the area!! i felt safe walking in the area and there is free parking, which is hard to find in the area! There is a really good variety of restaurants and nightlife in the area. I felt like it was a home away from home.

Good...till the end..

by TripAdvisor Member searly

I really liked this hotel for the money. We were near loads of great resturants and bars. The rooms were ok, clean and everything you needed. We did however have a problem at the end with one or our suit cases that we left on the floor, unfortunatly the water from the shower must of leaked through the floor on the other side of the wall, we did not notice this till we left (5 days later). The suitcase stank of damp and my clothes on the bottom smelt of damp too.
We did complain but all they did was apoligise and seemed more concerned about the room, we should of got them to replace our suitcase as I have now thrown it away as it smells too bad.
Apart from that though this is a good hotel.
