Cheap and Clean Accomodations in Vancouver

The YMCA reminds me of my college dormatory, but cleaner. The rooms were private with semi-private bathrooms. It provided inexpensive housing near the city. Its a little walk to the main city areas, but I was happy with my choice of lodging.

The beds come in singles or doubles.

nice location and cool gym with pool

The hotel is downtown, just along burrard, convieniently placed not far from local supermarket, which is open till midnight and a 7-11,, and two streets away from downtown granville st,
A lovely GYM and 2 pools one larger for tracks and one smaller for newbies which is a nice temperature,
Rooms are reasonable - $49.00 inc tax, for single + tv,, shame its closing in DEC 2006 and not due to open for 3 years and even then without the hotel,

Unique Quality: Free use of gym + pool ( at certain times)
Central location,
Good prices, did have good monthly rates

Right in the heart of downtown (see map), the YMCA Hotel offers 113 rooms for short-term stays. We offer safe, clean and comfortable single, twin and double rooms with daily maid service and a convenient cafe on our main floor. We are on direct transit routes, and are close to a wide variety of entertainment, restaurant, shopping and outdoor recreation options, and we share a building with the YMCA International College and Downtown YMCA. Rooms can be rented nightly, weekly or monthly: It is one of the very best deals in town.

The Cheapest in Downtown

All I need is a clean place to sleep & shower & a safe place to lock up my things. This place fits the bill. I don't need to pay for all those "amenities" for which I have little use, since I spend most of my time out & about in the area.

New news bulletin: The hotel section of the YMCA is closed for reconstruction until 2009. The only other inexpensive accomodation, I know of, is the Budget Inn/Patricia Hotel on 403 E Hasting. Look for that on the tip list on this site.

Unique Quality: It's in walking distance to restaurants, pubs, & shopping. A bus stop is on the next block & another one just across the street.

Not Enjoyable

We did not enjoy staying at the YMCA at all. On our floor, the rooms all looked out onto a central roof and the windows had no screens. We felt it was very unsafe because anyone could step out of their window, onto the roof, and then come into your room through your window if you left it open (as you would during the summer, since there was no air conditioning). There was no elevator either. We knew the washrooms were communal however we had expected them to be cleaner. The pool had a lifeguard, which is unusual for a hotel, but there were too many creepy old men in it for me to enjoy swimming. For twenty extra dollars we could have upgraded to a cheap hotel, and I wish we had.

* Update: Please note that the YMCA Hotel in Vancouver is temporarily closed. It is being demolished and will be re-opened in a brand-new building (hopefully with better security) in 2009.

Clean, budget and in the middle of the city

We stayed here for about 4 days and really liked it. It is a clean and friendly place and offers a lot of sportactivities as well if you feel like it.

Going outside, you are in the center of the city and can go anyway.

A: "You could try Alegiant Air. They fly out of Bellingham and they are very reasonably priced. I think they fly nonstop to Oakland or San Francisco."
