Islands from Nanaimo or Victoria

by annwag

I wish know what do you think, dear VT members, is Gabriola Island worth seeing, or better Newcastle Island?

I like Gabriola.

Never been to Gabriola, but have been to Newcastle and liked it a lot. Took a perimeter trail that goes all the way around the island, there are good views of downtown Nanaimo and Coastal Mountains across the strait. During the low tide you can see some pretty weird stone formations and may spot a raccoon or two. The ferry that takes you there is a passenger-only ferry, so you'd have to park your car and take whatever you need with you. There is also a campground on the island, we did not stay there, but it looked pretty nice. Some pics: http://picastory.com/story_preview.htm?nStart=1&cStoryId=B57643FCB892102A8CDE000FEA205C66

Travel Tips for Victoria

You certainly absolutely must...

by gwallace76

You certainly absolutely must go to to the Royal B.C. Museum. I have been all over the world and I have never seen a museum such as this one before. It's located right in the downtown portion of Victoria, and very easy to get to! Since I live in Victoria, when i'm away, I often miss going to the inner Harbour area downtown. It's a nice place to relax, and I admit I still do sightsee once in awhile, even though I live here.

IN AND AROUND DOWNTOWN

by LoriPori

One of the best ways to explore Victoria's scenic downtown is on foot. The Inner Harbour, Old Town, Chinatown, James Bay, Fisherman's Wharf, Fairfield, Beacon Hill Park and Rockland are all downtown and within easy walking distance of each other.

Here's the three little bears...

by pjallittle

Here's the three little bears climbing a tree. The one on top is sitting on a small stick that is nailed into the tree to hold a birdfeeder. We half expected the bear to come tumbling down but the little guy sat there for at least 20 minutes while his siblings attempted to dislodge the little guy.

Surrounded by natural beauty, we sometimes wonder why we ever leave to travel.

International folk festival.

by worldkiwi

From June to late July, you can experience the Folkfest - an international festival of food and music held on Victoria's waterfront. A stage hosts performances by various artists (not all folk type it seemed, but I don't know much about music... just what I like). It's expensive to get in with tickets over C$25.

To retain the British...

by annk

To retain the British tradition, High Tea is served in many establishments including the famous Empress Hotel, B & B's, The Royal Brisith Columbia Museum and the Butchart Gardens. Saw prices from $20-$46 per person.
