My mother and I are currently finishing up our last night at the Hotel. We will have stayed here a total of four nights. It is a very conveniently located hotel tucked about two blocks off the main street. We're staying in a regular two person/two queen bed room, which has a half balcony and a great view of the harbor (has to be requested). There are some rooms which have full size balconies. Beds are soft, pillows are too large for my taste, but rooms are clean and cleaning service is very prompt. Cons: Shower water can be unpredicatble, as my mother and i got burned a few times. Half balcony is not advised for the height wary. You can hear a lot of noise from the hallway, and when in your bathroom, can hear neighbors bathrooms. Everything else quiet. 'Park at your own risk' is advertised, as well as car thefts are frequent in Victoria. I do not like this because the car lots are video taped and you pay to park, and i feel there should be a guard on property. Over all would stay here again, and request a full balcony room on a lower floor. \ [I'm a vegetarian] The only restaurant close that I happened to like was the James Bay Bed and Breakfast. We ate at Santiago's, Harbor Towers Restaurant Vic's, and Huntingdon Manor all for breakfast. Out of the three Harbor Towers was the best, both Huntingdon (I heard nothing but sorry's from the waitress' mouth here) and Santiagos had bad service and worse food [I had french toast or waffles]. Another bad restaurant in the downtown area was Earl's who advertises a brick oven pizza, which is actually a reheated frozen brick oven pizza for 11 bucks. Restaurants we enjoyed: Garricks Head Pub (great hand made veggie burgers), and my mother had the halibut which she said was light and flaky, not greasy. Periklis the greek restaurant which has the best vegetarian plate. Slightly expensive but does not lack in food, food quality or service. Very relaxing and easy going restaurant. Luciano's had good Italian food, very very expensive (80 bucks for two people). Service was extra slow, made up for good food. Ate at Spaghetti Factory, just like all the others, decent food, poor service.
Provides mini fridge, microwave, teapot /coffe pot, place settings and silverware. Conseriege made reservations for us upon request, was very prompt. Easy to walk down to harbor, around to Empress Hotel and Parliament Building. The ferry lands right near the hotel and streets are easy to navigate.
