The Howard Johnson Hotel and Suites is a very new hotel, located on the "outskirts" of Victoria. It is located on Elk Lake Drive, about a fifteen minute drive from downtown Victoria, approximately midway between downtown and the Buchart Gardens, the airport, Sidney and the ferry to Vancouver. If you don't want to stay in the heart of the city this hotel is a great choice. Next door to the pool is Saanich Commonwealth Place, a great swimming pool and recreation center (ten meter diving boards, a large wave pool, heated dive tank, Olympic sized pool, fitness equipment, etc.) I believe drop-in admission at SCP is about $3.50 for adults and less for children. The hotel has regular rooms, as well as one- and two-bedroom suites. They also have rooms designed for people with disabilities. There is an outdoor pool and restaurant attached to the hotel. I've been into the front lobby and the restaurant and the staff have all been very friendly (though I have not actually stayed in the hotel).
