Victoria trip...

by mumzkie

Hi, I am planning a trip to Victoria with my family and we are planning to stay in downtown Vancouver. We don't have hotel reservation yet but we want to see Victoria before we head back to Seattle, WA to catch the AMTRAK Train to San Francisco. What is the best way to get to Victoria and back and if you can give us some tips on how to go around tourist places and what transportation to use to go. Is AMTRAK bus station close by downtown Vancouver??? Any of your tips will be a big help to us. Thank you.

BC ferries website: http://www.bcferries.bc.ca/ You can find schedules/times for a ferry out to Victoria from the mainland. The ferries don't leave from Vancouver proper, but I believe there are buses you can take down to the harbour.

Why don't you take the Victoria Clipper to Seattle, and skip returning to Vancouver, to take an Amtrak bus. The Clipper is quite a bit more expensive than the bus, but you are in Seattle in around 3 hours. For Victoria travel: http://tourismvictoria.com & for the Victoria Clipper: http://www.clippervacations.com/ferry_schedule. Gary

Take a look at the following site: www.virginamerica.com. You can fly from Seattle to San Francisco in a few hours for roughly the same cost as a 23 hour train ride, with sleep accommodations, and a bus ride from Emeryville to San Francisco. If you travel from Vancouver to Victoria, take the Clipper from Victoria to Seattle, then fly from Seattle to San Francisco, you basically have given yourself another vacation day. Gary

There are so much to do and to see in Victoria, you would be amazed! Downtown is nice to walk around and has the best restaurants ever,Very diversified!

You can go Whalewatching, sightseeing, museum touring, gardening, swimming in the cold cold ocean! What I miss the most from Victoria is when on a nice day, summer or winter, my friends and i would jump on motorcycles and just go up north on windy roads for hours. The views are breathtaking, we would drive until we were tired, usually in a town where none of us had stopped before, find a cool place to eat and rest and jump back on the bike and drive until sunset!

MORE then VICTORIA

Victoria is a beautiful city and the biggest on Vancouver Island. It worth a visit for itself, and if you only have 2-3 days, spend them in the area. On the other hand if you can spend more then that, Vancouver Island has SOOOO many beautiful places and things to do. So think, when will be the next time you can afford to come here?! Don't miss the Gulf Islands, the Pacific Rim and Tofino, Cowichan Valley, Duncan and many other places Pacicic Rim and the Gulf Islands

Take a scenic drive from the ferry to Victoria. I can't remember exact roads, but there's a main highway you can take to the city. Instead, take the other highway that goes all along the shore through places like Cadboro Bay and Oak Bay. It's a beautiful drive and an oppurtunity to see some of the nicest homes on the island. It's a well-worth scenic sidetrip!

London Fog - An Island Invention!

by BungalowJill

People in Victoria seem to be addicted to a little beverage called a London Fog. I've never seen them anywhere else, but if you have let me know, because I'd like to know where they originated.

A London Fog is a steamed milk with a shot of vanilla and an Earl Grey tea bag. This is the perfect drink for a typical rainy Victoria afternoon.

Update- It turns out that the London Fog is indeed an island invention. A coffee shop in Cobble Hill first made them. Our very own island beverage!

Keep spare change handy for all the buskers, whether they're bagpipers like this guy here, or living statues, singers, magicians or entertainers. They're *all* over Victoria! Sometimes you'll really want to reward them, so keep some extra money aside. Believe me!
