Open on Christmas & Boxing Day??

by Vaspt

I just. Learned that the Royal Museum is closed from the25th through the28th. What else will be closed during that time period? Will many groceries be open on Christmas day? Or restaurants?

Christmas Day and Dec 26 are bank holidays in Canada. Most stores are closed on Christmas Day, but some will be open again on Dec 26. Some restaurants will be open for Christmas dinner.

Dec 26 stores will be open, it is Boxing Day, and one of the biggest shopping, sale days of the year. Dec 25, you will find limited restaurants open, for a real treat go to the Empress.

Butchart Gardens is open every day of the year. They open late on Christmas Day (1 in the afternoon)

Granted, not much will be in bloom there at this time of year.

Travel Tips for Victoria

When in Victoria don't you miss...

by cinthya_in_victoria

This is a list of my favorite places and attractions in Victoria:

- Butchart Gardens
- Inner Harbor
- Craigdarroch Castle
- Whale watching
- Royal BC Museum
- Beacon Hill Park
- The Bay Centre
- Parliament Building
- Bastion Square
- Government St. My fondest memory… well, very difficult to say.
But one thing is for sure, among all my trips this is my favorite one because this was my first trip abroad and the first time I was away from home and from my parents.

My days at the English school were awesome. I was the only Latinamerican person in the class, the rest were Korean and Japanese and the mix of cultures and customs in the classroom were cool, we learned a lot from each other, I specially learned a lot about Japanese culture and because of that I went to Japan some years later (and I’m sure I’ll go to Korea one day too).

This trip woke up my traveler spirit, that’s for sure!

We had heard about the Galloping Goose (named after a noisy locomotive on that defunct railway) and we wanted to cycle along that trail. It was great! For more info on this fabulous trail: http://www.sookenet.com/sooke/activity/trails/goose.html

Walk around the harbor area during the early evening. Enjoy the performances by the street musicians/singers/jokesters along the harbor. We signed up for the Ghost Tour the first evening we arrived and got to see parts of the town we wouldn't have discovered otherwise.

see the Mother Goose in the nest. The second picture was taken moments after the chicks were hatched and ready to jump into the water. This is accompanied by a great show of accomplishment, Father Goose honks loudly to alert both of us to the blessed event.

Then the Mom and Pop geese sit in the water and beckon the goslings to join them. The little guys work up the nerve and jump, it is at least 6 feet high to the nest, atop a massive cedar stump surrounded by water. A fairly safe nest.

Please click the pic. Next we will have the geese and their kids in the water.

Going out...

In Victoira the night to go out is Thursday. All the students flock to the clubs onThurs because it's cheap night. At Sugar night club drinks are about $1 CDN a piece and at The One Lounge about $1.50 CDN. Get there early as there are almost always line-ups. Have fun!
