The Swan Boutique Hotel may not have quite the pedigree as The Empress but the location is nearly as good and even better if you are a craft beer aficionado. It's first floor restaurant is a former Canadian Brewpub of the Year Winner. The hotel itself has been deemed the “Building of Flowers” due to the preponderance of baskets of them hanging from every possible inch.
Unique Quality: Located in the heart of historic downtown Victoria in a historic 1913 building, all rooms are suites with full kitchens but a continental breakfast is included. The smallest suites start at C$ 129 off-season/ C$ 199 high season. Their penthouse suite was voted Best Intimate Space in Canada in 2005 and is considerably bigger and more expensive. Weekly and monthly rates are available for all suites.
I haven't actually stayed in this hotel, but I have spent a few dollars down in the pub. It's a very nice pub; they have an interesting array of different art pieces there.
Quite an eclectic and original grouping. From original Native Northwest Coast Carvings, to interesting pieces by local artisans. They even have some furniture pieces dating from the 17th to 20th century. If you check out their site, you can find out more.
The hotel, judging by what I've seen; is very clean, and from what I've heard, it wouldn't kill you to have a really nice stay here. Prices range depending on what you go for; Studio suite, you'll be paying from $179.oo, depending on what month you arrive. They also have One bedroom - Queen suites, to Loft style one bedroom suites, from around $219.00.
Other "Entertainment" suites are open concept featuring a queen or king size bed, private washrooms and a fully equipped kitchen for when you just want to relax. These are ideal for one or two people. The "Entertainment" One Bedroom Queen Suite is their unique one bedroom which are situated on one level. These feature a private bedroom with a queen size bed, a fully equiped kitchen, dining area, private washroom and a spacious living room, with a comfortable sofa bed. This is perfect for up to 4 people.
Unique Quality: This pub, has special little caddies, which hold a selection of small "tasters", six in total which will give you a good idea which one you'll want to continue indulging in. Swans has a selection of their own award winning beer, always on tap, because they brew it very close by. From the popular Witbier and Smooth Sailing Honey Ale. Which is one of my fav's. Also, Black & Tan, which is a mix of Oatmeal Stout and Buckerfields Bitter; and Mild & Bitter, half Appleton Brown and half Buckerfields Bitter.
There are also domestic and imported beers if those don't get your taste-buds geared up.
