VANCOUVER ISLAND

by LoriPori

This is a map of VANCOUVER ISLAND. Hans and I travelled from Victoria and headed north on Highway 1 to Duncan, Chemainus, then Highway 4 to Port Alberni & Tofino. We backtracked to Parksville and Nanaimo where we took the ferry back to the mainland.

Try to see the Olympic Mountains in Washington from the Beacon Hill Park, we couldn't because it was raining, but it is suppose to be a great view. the weather! You never know what you are going to get next. I think that the saying goes 'If you don't like the weather in Victoria, wait 5 minutes'. And it couldn't be more true!

Go up the island to one of the small towns in the mountains or on the coast to one of the beaches Soaking in the hot tub and enjoying the view from the Malahat's summit during the day(and at night enjoying the star filled skies while sipping champagne with my girlfriend/even at night we could see the moonlight shining of the water below)

discover the famous Fan Tan Alley! Before I left for Victoria, my sister told me that I absolutely had to go to Fan Tan Alley. She said that it was a very tiny alley located in Chinatown. While in Chinatown, I walked past Fan Tan Alley and even took a picture of the sign pointing to the alley without even realising it! It has an extremely small entrance! Here's the sign pointing to Fan Tan Alley.

Dollar Pizza

by suziezed

It's never going to win any awards for culinary excellence but late at night and/or when you're (almost) broke it is cheap calories.

Victoria has several $1 a slice pizza places - there are two Second Slice places (one on Douglas between Yates and Johnson, one on Douglas between Pandora and Fisgard), there is Maleka's (I think that's what it's called) up near the Odeon theatre on Yates (in the shopping alley that goes between Yates and Johnson) but my favourite is Zano's which is on the other side of Douglas (opposite side from The Bay Centre) between Johnson and Pandora. Their pizza tastes better, is a cent cheaper and they have a pizza slice card so that once you've had 12 slices the next is free.

You'll see a real cross-section of people getting pizza from these places - from street kids to families to business people.

A: "I don't think that is a problem, you won't be the only one in that situation. I think reservations would be a must though, try calling them at 1-(800) 833-6388"
