Is October early enough to look for a job and house?

by Lozthekiwi

That should be early enough as I think they start hiring just after our Canadian Thanksgiving........Second week in October. Housing is really expensive up there though and we have heard a lot of horror stories about rental rip-offs, etc. You can read the local paper. Just google The Whistler Question. Are you planning to live there or just be there for the ski season? A House?? or a room?? Good Luck!!

This site has a long article on moving to Whistler including links to Survival guides and advice from locals. Check it out here:

That should help a great deal.

Whistler & Blackcomb Mountain

Even if you do not ski, you simply must take a ride in the gondolas up each of the mountains. For CAN$25 each, you can buy a sightseeing ticket to the Roundhouse Lodge on Whistler mountain which is just about at elevation 6,000ft. The ride is about 15-20 minutes up to the top. The views once you get there are amazing. Your ticket is valid for 1 day and can also be used to ride the gondola on Blackcomb mountain. During the summer months you can enjoy hiking on the mountains with the same breathtaking views.

Bear tours

by Pat&ZoAnn

This is the reason we came to Whistler. Our guide was renowned bear expert Michael Allen.

We started at the base of Whistler Mountain just before daybreak, and the guide took us up both Whistler and Blackcomb to areas he knew bears would be feeding. Unfortunately, the bears had mostly finished feeding just before we were there, but we did get up close and personal with a couple of them.

As well as bears, the view was quite spectacular. Click here to view a short video of BC wildlife, including the bear we saw. May not work with dial-up connection.

"Beautiful place"

Whistler is the largest ski resort in Canada, located about 120 km from North Vancouver. Its mouintains, Whislter and Blackcomb, have the greatest vertical rises of any ski in North America. Whistler Village is one of the most beautiful and coldest places I've been. There I had the chance to be in the snow for the very first time and that makes Whistler one of my most loved memories from my trips.

This is a group of us at Whistler, I love that place. I don't get to many chances to visit, it's expensive and although only 4 hours from Seattle it seems like such a trip with crossing the border, etc. I think my sister will be enrolling in The University of BC this fall so perhaps that'll be my chance to get up there at least once a year.
