Peak to peak

by Tuum.est

You comment that you can lose your pass for skiing Peak to Peak. I have never seen it signed as being closed. I would be very surprised if it is closed. Clearly it is triple black and dangerous, but is it even in the ski area. If not, then of course anyone can ski it whenever they want. I caution anyone thinking of it that it is extreme skiing! Do you have info that it is closed?

This question is really best directed to whoever it is that wrote what you are responding to. It sounds like you found a tourist tip that someone wrote, but without knowing what the original statement was, it is difficult to know what to say in response to your questions.

Yes, I think you have clicked the 'ask a question' link on a Whistler tip?

If you want to ask the person who wrote the tip (all VT content is member-written) then just click their username. You will be taken to their homepage. Under the small photo you will see an 'email me' link, so you can use the in-site email to ask them.

Not all VT members visit the site regularly so you may not get a speedy reply.

Thanks. That is helpful.

Re: Peak to peak

Ah! I hadn't even thought about that link that is posted at the bottom of each tip.

I rarely think of some of these things because they are automatically inserted into the tip after they are written, and when I read tourist tips written by others there is so much stuff there I have learned to block out much of it now.

The "Post a Comment" link is another way to make contact with the member that wrote whatever it was that you were reading. However, the comment that you post appears at the bottom of the person's page about the location, and therefore it is somewhat easy for them to not notice - though the "Notices" item in the upper right corner of their screen will show it.

I'll leave an example comment on your home page so that you can see how this looks and appears to the person who wrote what you are responding to.

Yesterday I attempted to search for the "Peak to Peak" tip that you were commenting on, but the problem is that there are so many things written about "The Peak" in Hong Kong that the sheer number of them make it hard to sort through all the items people have written about to find that one particular item you were commenting on.

Re: Peak to peak

The 'leave a comment' link does indeed take you to the member homepage.

But the larger ad more obvious (imo) link at the bottom of the tips says 'post a question', which is where the confusion has arisen for this poster (and for others). It is easy to see how someone new to the site might think the question would be directed to the person who wrote the tip, rather than placed on the relevant travel forum.

Travel Tips for Whistler

Local Info on Events

by mandeeuk

When you arrive in Whistler, pick up a copy of the free newspaper the Pique. It is invaluable for info on everything from restaurants and club nights to yoga classes. It's the best way to find out where the busy spots are each night.

bears

by btex

I went looking for bears on some trails around Whistler. Could only find bear tracks in the snow. This picture was taken on the Rainbow Lake Trail. Yeah, I can tell the difference between dog and bear tracks...I hope. If you're foolish enough (like me) to go looking for bears and need survival tips or just want more bear info, check out the websites.

Mt. Blackcomb

by emilienoelle

Mt. Blackcomb is the big ski mountain in Whistler. It is about 2500 meters high. Though we were there in July we still rode the ski lift to the top. The view from up there is amazing. There is lodge/restaurant at the top you can visit as well as some hiking and mountain biking excursions where you can take the lift up to the top and then hike or ride down. I was not this adventurous! The lift ride alone was enough to scare me!

WHISTLER - BLACKCOMB

by balhannah

Since I have been to Whistler, the 2010 Winter Olympics have been held here.

For us, it was a sightseeing Gondola ride to the top of Blackcomb Mountain where a mountain top restaurant was located. Wow! What 360degree views, and even though it was June, and Summer, way up the top here, there still was snow, and skiers and snowboarder's having a wonderful time.

For warmer climate people like us, seeing the Snow ploughs and the Mountain Ambulance, and animals called Marmot's on the Mountain, but no Bears, was quite an experience.
It was quite cold at "the top" so we didn't hang about for long before taking another gondola down.

A word of warning..............
We left from Whistler Village in quite decent, warm weather. The higher we went, the colder it got, and as we were leaving the Mountain top, drizzly rain set in. It was cold!!!
So rug up!!

The views are incredible, and I would say, this is a MUST DO

This wasn't available when I was there, but there is now a world record-breaking PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola that runs 4.4-kilometre between peaks, I imagine this would be spectacular too!

Some facts on that are............
•Longest unsupported span of 3.024 kilometres
•Highest lift of its kind at 436 metres above the valley floor
•Completes the longest continuous lift system on the globe

REGULAR SUMMER SEASON: MAY 29 - OCTOBER 11, 2010
10 -5 pm or later when the daylight hours are longer
PEAK 2 PEAK Alpine Experience $43.95 adult or $39.95 if you book online.
