    Cheap but out of town

The lodge is easy to find you directly seen it from the main road, we don't know where to check-in as these place is together with bar/restaurant , I went inside to the bar and ask one of the waitress where to check-in, she give me the phone and said you have to dial to that number the one in the wall, I hear a guy on the phone and said come at the back I'll meet you here

It doens't look like an entrance but it's okay were inside, the place is more like a hostel but they have a private room with ensuite bathroom, for the price we're looking a place to stay with free parking, as we know hotels downtown have reasonable price but no parking lot, and car park in Whistler downtown is expensive 2 dollar for an hour

Below the lodge there is a cafe and restaurants where you can have meal and breakfast in the morning, Southside lodge is about 5 minutes drive to Whistler village

Most of the lodgers were backpackers coming here by bus, and take a hostel room which is cheaper than private room, they have a communal kitchen provide for their guest
In the room we have a double bed and a bunkbed, refrigerator,tv microwave and free wifi
The room is too simple and spacious, apparently, is a family room or four people can fit in as a hostel we have at least our private room and for the price we pay we have a free parking for our car outside

Finding a place to stay in Whistler downtown is difficult if you have a car because it is pedestrianize
The manager of the place is a young guy he is very friendly and helpful. Southside lodge has a laundry room in the cellar with coins operated

Unique Quality: From our small balcony we have great views of the mountains

    200 meters from lift

If you don't mind sharing a room this is the place to be. You can't beat the price at 35.00 per night and the location. If you book in a group they will try to put you in the room with your buddies.

The kitchen area is typical hostel style.

I had a pleasant stay with no problems. You can walk to the lift and the bus to the village is right across the street.

Unique Quality: Great restaurant the south side diner is located under the hostel.

Conditions beginning of June

by lika1

I need to be in Vancouver for work in the beginning of June and I was very happy to see this is only a few hours travel from whistler/blackcomb. Since I always wanted to go down those canadian pistes I plan to go a few days early (june 1st till 4th) and do a little snowboarding there. However, I am used to the austrian alps and I have no idea what to expect, I checked the sites and the winterseason seems to end on the 4th of june. But is the snow it still any good by that time? Is the soutside lodge in whistler a good place to stay (also logistically) and is it worth taking my own gear?

it's spring/ snow left. still a nice place to visit if you want to hike or bike.

as said, glacier skiing is the only option so it's not worth lugging your gear with you. Whistler offer great accomodation. I think Southside Lodge is actually near the gondola so its a good place although you'd better do some checking as to the exact location. Also Perimeter Bus runs regularly to Whistler so you won't have to drive and actually enjoy the vistas more.

That time of year the rates are a bit lower, so I would try to stay in the main village rather than southside. You'd be nearer the action (there's lots of summer activities in and near Whistler), nearer places to rent mountain bikes if you are into that. There would still be enough snow on the mountain tops that alpine hiking wouldn't be too good, but not enough snow to ski or board. However, taking the gondolas/chairs to the top would be possible for great alpine views. And there are lots of sub-alpine hikes in the area.
