WHERE TO STAY WHISTLER OR BLACKCOMB
by RACCOON1
There is no problem moving between mountains. You can ski one area in the morning and the other in the afternoon bur you have to come down to the base .As a rule you ski one mountain one day and the other the next day and alternate.
This will all change Nov 2008 when the Peak to Peak Gondola starts up.
There are three genreal areas in which you can stay which may be an issue.
Creekside is the lowest and snow may be slushy at the bottom.
Whistler village is slightly higher ( not much) and the snow at the base will be less slushy than at Creekside.
Upper Blackcomb Village is again higher and thus there is less chance of slushy snow.
Some people prefer Whistler while others prefer Blackcomb.
Generally speaking the Beginner runs at Whistler/Blackcomb are more difficult than at European Resorts. Ditto for Blues , and Blacks.
Most Excellent Sandwiches
by Roadquill about Ingrid's Village Cafe
Ingrid's is a great sandwich place where there is an excellent selection of types and styles of sandwiches and wraps. The menu board lists a huge selection and the glass case below lays out the mouthwatering schnitzels, meats and pattys. The service was excellent and food well prepared. Large buns, filled with fresh produce. There is also a vegetarian burger. The down side is that there are only a few tables inside, but the staff encourages you to share tables (which ads to the fun) I enjoyed my chicken schnitzel sandwich. The falafel burger was also very tasty.
Whistler Village
by cinthya_in_victoria
This is fairy tale town. It offers shops, restaurants, hotels from B&B to 5 star ones, cafes, etc.
It will house the next Winter Olympic games of 2010. Just watch out of bears! they can be in town trying to open a trash can or a car in search of food.
Walking in its streets snowing was like being in a fairy tale. Just awesome!!
PORTEAU COVE
by balhannah
Pretty little Porteau Cove is located on the most southerly fjord in North America.
An old ship has been sunk here for divers, but for us, it was just a stop to stretch the legs and to enjoy the lovely water views.
We parked beside the jetty. The views of Howe sound were good here. We did notice the pebbly beach, and the driftwood, something I love! In Summer, people go swimming here.
Tide, wind and weather conditions can change suddenly in Howe Sound, so be careful if swimming and boating.
Whistler - A place I need to come back to....
by hasthetravelbug
Whistler has everything an adrenaline junkie needs. A massive bike park with some serious trails, mountains to ski, snowboard, and hike on, and a compact village to party in. With the 2010 Olympics coming up there is a lot of development going on. Unfortunately we were there in some cloudy weather so the town is pretty much all we got to see. Overall Whistler has everything you need for a holiday - shops, sights, scenery, sports, and nightlife.
