Terrain for everyone
by jujub
Whistler/Blackcomb has lots of terrain for all different levels. We spent a week there, and were not able to cover even half of these colossal mountains and their trails.
People have different opinions about which mountain is better, but we just tried to follow the sun. Some areas have deep powder up to your knees and no one around... if you are not used to it, it makes you wonder: where is everyone? ;)
SUPPORT LOCAL TRANSPORT
by jhorsfield30
Whilst visiting whistler, I was surprised by local events arranged by newspapers and radio stations in co-operation with local community.
Events to support the use of public transport, a barbique event at the gonzala at the top of whistler village, the hotdogs were well recieved by all on a partiuculary nice day in early oct, and even though they had then been the last day of events. I put my name down and enjoyed the local cuisine over a portable camper.
Don't like snow? Hit the trails.

The summer alternative to snowboarding/skiing is another favourite B.C. pasttime: Mountain Biking. Avid mountain bikers who want a change from the challenging but perhaps repetitive North Shore trails escape to Whistler during the summer to hit the trails and "Huck It large!"
They also sport the Whistler Mountain Bike Park for you tricksters out there. Careful though one biker buddy of mine has dubbed it the "Whistler Mountain Trauma Park" after many a fall and broken bone.
O, Whistler!

"Beautiful Whistler Village"
Whistler Village is a beautiful and wonderful place to spend time. There are terrific shops and restaurants to visit and two wonderful hotels. I was fortunate to be there right before Thanksgiving so was able to visit the "Turkey Sale" when vendors set up tents all through the village and sell everything from handcrafts to ski gear. The people are incredible welcoming and kind, the surroundings were breathtaking, especially the autumn leaves and the mountains, and we even saw black bear and cubs playing on the mountains!
Skied Whistler (again)!

"Whistler, Canada"
2003: Finally was able to ski Whistler and Blackcomb. Conditions were not ideal yet but I see what all the fuss is about.
Shot is of Island off the coast-on 99 to Vancouver.
"From Top of Whistler....."
2004: Took my camera with me on the last day of skiing and shot a picture of the mountains and valleys and a few of the "expert" runs I did.
"Whistler Mountain: West Bowl and Whistler Bowl"
A shot from Franz's Chairlift of the central and western face of Whistler Mountain. The large open bowl (with moguls barely discernable) is the West Bowl. The specks on the face ARE skiers!
Snow conditions on December 17th and the previous four days were marginal. Up high and somewhat off-piste was the best, though I gouged my skis on hidden rocks. Not all runs and lifts were open and skiing below mid-mountain was crappy/slushy and riddled with rocks. The sheer size of Whistler-Blackcomb makes it possible to find a few decent runs up top, if you know where to look.
Last year, at this time, was significantly better. Skiing in December can be marginal and 2004 was one of those years.
