Travel Tips for White Rock

Make sure you pay for parking!

by Karlie85

White Rock is a small oceanside city on Semiahmoo Bay on the West Coast of Canada and they don’t have any income from industry or large commercial interests. Their entire tax base is 90% residential taxes and 10% commercial (business) taxes. When you’re on Marine Drive, you will notice pay parking lots all along the beach side. This is a main revenue source for the city of White Rock. It is very important for you to always pay for your parking and to put in more money if your time is running out. They are not lenient with people whose meters have expired. We were always topped up, but we were told by a few people that they will not even give you a five minute grace period, they will just give you a ticket right away.
Parking is only $2 per hour, with a maximum of 4 hours in a stall. The stalls are numbered, so remember your number, walk over to the meter, put in your stall number and pay with either cash or credit. Bring your ticket with you, and you can refill it on your cell phone or at any other meter if you are far away and realize it needs to be topped up.

White Rock - Canada Day 2005

by elmendorfs

"What a Pleasant Surpise!"

We had the good fortune of visiting White Rock, BC for the first time ever, and it just happened to be on Canada Day! The weather was magnificent, the festivities were great, and we'd love to go back again! There were activities all day long and a wonderful fireworks display over the water after dark. This bellydance troup was one of the performances. They said they had been together for years, and were really great to watch.

"The beach and tide pools were awesome"

The waterfront was a beautiful variety of changing scenery. When the tide was in the water was several feet deep right up to the edge. When the tide was out there was a labrynth of tide pools and sand bars that produced an endless display of reflective ribbons.

"The "Rock""

There is actually a very large white rock on the beach! Not naturally white, but very strikingly whitewashed. I haven't researched the history. But my suspision is that the town was more likely named after the white appearing cliffs at the north end of the bay than the whitewashed rock on the beach. Anyone who really knows is welcome to set things straight.

"The Beach"

Well, White Rock is south of Vancouver, and rests right on the ocean. It's a typical beach strip, complete with bars, restaurants, ice-cream parlours, and nice cars.. I have a friend that lives right on the water, so I spend a lot of time there!

If you walk along the beach in White Rock, you'll see (and hear) many sea gulls. Here's a shot I took while killing some time waiting for Brennen to get off work one day..
