Are they limited or sold out or something? (Asking for future reference for when we go again).
They are sold out - the festival camping often sells out before the festival. I'm also looking for a festival camping pass for a friend (who is also willing to buy the full festival pass if that's part of the package). We went to the Forks one time when they were have Dragon Boat races. What it is, is that the Cancer Society raises money with this event by having companies compet against each other by racing down the river in Dragon Boats. These boats are like extra large canoes that can fit up to 22 people. They race them 4 at a time & the winners go up to the next level. It really seemed like everyone was having a great time & it was fun to watch.
Winnipeg is a curling town. We have 21 curling clubs in Winnipeg and more in the towns around. You can join your local curling club and play weekly or more often. Typically in a club there are all levels, from Group A down to E where the top two teams in each group each year advance to the group above.
We have a bonspiel each year - advertised as the largest bonspeil in the world. The MCA's annual men's bonspiel can have over 500 teams with teams guaranteed 8 games. Teams from Europe join in each year as they get to play so many games in one week.
Every year at Kildonan Golf Course, there's a huge charity Golf Tournament. It's very exclusive and hard to get into. The rich and famous of Winnipeg come out and swing away the day for a great cause. I was vacationing with 5 other girls, all of us 18 yrs. old, and we were asked to caddy in this tournament. We rubbed elbows with pro hockey players, CEO's, golf pros, and tons of other great people. The best part was, everyone loved the girls from the states and everything was free the whole day! We've been invited to return to next years tournament and caddy again! On the day, we raised $55,000 for several Winnipeg charities.
Manitoba has several fine parks, including Riding Mountain National Parks, which is about 3 hours NW of Winnipeg, and Whiteshell Provincial Park, which is on the border of Manitoba and Ontario to the East. Both offer hotels and camping.
Spruce Woods provincial park is a great place to do some biking or hiking. The place also has mini golf and amenities. Nearby are the Spirit Sands, a large area of sand dunes created by glaciers. Just don't wander too far off the trails, or you might get hit by a missile from the Shilo army base. If you are bored by the sands, check out dismal and ugly GLENBORO where you can see the huge Sara the Camel next to a bunch of dilapidated farm machinery!!! OR, also nearby is Souris, which sports a nifty rope bridge over the river.
This is a Bar/Pizza place that is great for the whole family. Watch out for crazy sports fans that come in after games. I ate there with my friends and enjoyed the drink specials they offered. The only bad part was the waitor stepped on my sunglasses and broke them. Get the pizza! It's really tasty, and if that's not your bag, then go for the other dishes they serve, like pastas and salads.
