WHAT ABOUT FROSTY THE SNOWMAN -- Will I See More of Him In Winnipeg?
by johnnydawn
I want more SNOW -- the kind of snow and the kind of long winters I remember as a child in the midwestern United States. I like cold and beautiful snows. Is Winnipeg a good choice?

I find it difficult that you want to come to Winnipeg because of our snow. We have so much of it that we are usually quite happy to see the last of it. You can check out the following travelogue for a year-long series of pictures featuring Winnipeg weather: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tt/671a1/#TL
You also said in the other posting that you want to spend some time in Winnipeg around real and ordinary people in a common neighborhood. That you should be able to find anywhere in Winnipeg.

I recall reading somewhere that Winnipeg was the coldest capital city (with more than 100,000 people) in the world. I fondly recall one of its many blizzards (March), stuck in the downtower hotel for 3 days when the city was completely shut down except for the crazies and the snowmobilers. I guess that is why I recall the people of Winnipeg being so friendly!

Travel Tips for Winnipeg
Avoid cold and mosquito seasons!
by Srechko
Most importantly arrive either during two weeks of spring or two weeks of fall. Then Winnipeg is great. Days are sunny (it hardly ever rains), temperatures are perfect, and there is no mosquittos. Take a walk to the Forks, or go to Corridon for ice cream. Also, if you are into that, Winnipeg simphony is one of the most recognizeable ones in Canada. Parties, parties, parties...
Traveling with small children?
by kmom
We all know that traveling with small children can be tricky. If you want to avoid bringing everything with you that your baby or toddler might need when they are away from home, consider renting baby gear. Baby equipment rental companies are available across Canada, the US and even into Europe and beyond. Many, like Parentals in Winnipeg, rent car seats, full-sized cribs, strollers and basically anything else you might need for your baby when you are away from home. Although it is best to reserve what you need as soon as you know your travel plans, you might be able to get items last minute.
I rent cribs and car seats when I travel with my kids. The cribs help my kids sleep more soundly when they are away from home and those convertible car seats are so big and bulky to travel with, it is so much more convenient to have them delivered to the airport when I arrive.
I hope this travel tip helps some parents!
Great camping areas!
by guybert
Camping is very popular around the Winnipeg area & all over the province of Manitoba. You can choose many type of different locations to go camping in seeing as Manitoba has many lakes, forests & even a desert at Carberry. You can also find many secluded areas the further north you go.

Churchill, way up in Northern Manitoba, is famous for its polar bears. I believe you can fly up there from the airport if you're interested in seeing the critters. Your best bet for finding some will probably be at the town dump.
Australian Food in the Heart of the City
by jasonklassen about Billabong
Wonderfully authentic Australian food. Small dining space makes for a very lively atmosphere. The mixture of eclectic Australian cuisine makes for a vibrant experience. All of the meats are done to a soft perfection while the sauces and gravies are always thick, warm, and sweet. The typical mixture of meat and fruits makes for a broad taste sample with a variety of flavors on any single plate.
Antoher major selling point is, of course, the beer selection. You can choose from a wide choice of Australian, domestic, and other import beers. Make sure you try some of their more exotic desserts. Lamb in a plum/date sauce.
Delicate lamb that is so soft you can strip the bone with your fork covered in a semi-sweet date/plum sauce. The meat is so flavorfull you might be tempted to forget about the vegetables but that would be a mistake. Barbequed broccoli and asparagus smothered in a rich butter-based sauce enhances the already delicious meal.
