We are going through Winnipeg in May and would like to tour the Royal Canadian Mint. We only have one day there, is there anything else we can fit in, or something more fun than the Mint? Thanks.

i live in " the peg " & have never been to the mint but have heard it's quite a tour . there's lots to see but without a timeframe can't tell you much . can you give me an idea & i'll perhaps be able to make some suggestions .

Hi! Usually we have nice weather in May, so I suggest going the The Forks. This is a beautiful site at the junction of two rivers There is shopping in stores not found at the mall, there are buskers, and lovely places to lunch Enjoy!
This snow bank was after a freak snow storm in April of 1997. The storm was a contributing factor in the 'Flood of the Century' which also hit Fargo North Dakota in the States This is near Notre Dame de Lourdes, the nearest town to where our farm is.
Manitoba is known as a friendliest province in Canada. That is even stated on their license plates. I totally agree even though I can only compare it to Ontario's friendliness. People are always smiling, waiting for a next victim to start a conversation about the weather of latest Blue Bombers (local football team) results. Total strangers are smiling at you when you are passing them by. At first I though I looked funny or something is wrong with my face. Actually it is a very nice habit.
THE WINNIPEG GOLDEYES
NORTHERN LEAGUE CHAMPS
The Winnipeg Goldeyes play in what is called the Northern League. This is an independent league. Winnipeg is the only Canadian team in a league of 10 teams. The winner plays against the winner of the Northeast League (8 teams).
Canwest Global Park is situated in Downtown Winnipeg close to the Forks. The ballpark was enlarged during the winter and now holds over 7000 fans (the games are usually sold out). The Goldeyes have out drawn 57 out of 58 teams in the 6 independent leagues as well as 13 of the 30 AAA teams.
Some of the major leaguers to have played in Winnipeg are:

This is super entertainment fo rthe whole family and very cheap.
1/2 hour north of the city is River Road -- about as historic as Manitoba gets. The Red River in the late 1800's was a fur trading centre (that's all it was - no cities yet).
Along River road, you get to see four or five typical houses from that period, St. Andrew's Church (the oldest church in Western Canada I believe), a school for proper young ladies, Kennedy House (where you can stop for a spot of tea), and land up at the Marine Museum of Manitoba in Selkirk.
Upscale nightclub right near downtown. Dancers perform on a raised platform several times during the night and its a great show Dress code: dress shoes and slacks for men, women can get away with just about anything (especially if it's revealing!).
