thinking about moving to oak bay...
To all our VT members,
We are seriously thinking of moving from Boston MA US to Oak Bay NB CA.
Would you kindly send any information about oak bay itself and the area surrounding such as st andrews and st stephens...my husband and i are looking at property via the internet and working with a broker...but we want totally unbiased information!!! Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated...we would like to make a well informed decision.
We are from the Boston area and will be driving up to your area in a few weeks. Thank you in advance.
RE: thinking about moving to oak bay...
The only way to make a well informed decision is to be here on the ground.
Canada is no paradise-substandard housing and unethical Realtors abound.
For a test of how honest your Realtor is point out a building shrouded in green netting-a leaky condo and they are everywhere-and ask "what's happening"?
What's happening is that the building is rotting and depending on how bad the damage is it has to be re-skinned or in extreme cases rebuilt from the outside in-a nightmare for those who own those suites. Is your Realtor telling you the truth?
Have a Home Inspector do an Independent report on the state of any place you're considering-it'll cost you a couple hundred dollars-on any place you're interested in.
Also think carefully if living on an Island-even one as big as Vancouver Island-is what you want.Flights are relatively infrequent and Ferries often a total PITA.
Travel Tips for Saint Andrews
St.Andrews is a summertime touristic little town. The main street offers a lot of (touristic) shops. From St.Andrews you can make a Whale Watch. That's something you have to do! Along the beach you can walk a beach-trail, but local residents has blocked this trail, because the trail is on their property!
It's better to go to Minister Island and see some deer.
