I stayed a month at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College. It offers daily, weekly, and monthly accomodation for non-students during the summer. It is great budget base to experience a beautiful part of the world. I spent $360 for the month during the summer of 2007. The college sits on a hill overlooking the town and the Humber Arm fjord. There is neighbor access to hiking trails. From July 1 to end of August there is a nice free outdoor swimming pool created on the nearby Corner Brook Stream.
The bath is semi private shared with one other room. The whole time I was there I had effectively a private bath because the other room was unoccupied. There is a very nice kitchen area, and a common room with cable television and nice social scene. There is also an ethernet for high speed internet access included with the room.
We arranged all our B&Bs via telephone or internet after viewing them on the computer. All were very satisfactory and it was nice to talk to the locals. The prices were very reasonable and the hosts were more than willing to discuss the pros and cons of various plans that we had. The Viking Village B&B is very good near this photo of the Viking 1000 year-old sod huts re-creation at the World Historic Site.
