Nain Harbour in a speedboat by jamiesno My stays at the Atsanik Lodge in Nain, Labrador have always been a bit of an adventure but I am encouraging you to have fun and relax. Go with the flo and adjust to northern service and hospitality. The local lady "Sarah" is very well known and infamous for her customer service. The bar attached to the hotel is also a popular spot in Nain for a cold beer. It is smokey in there but you'll survive. The hotel is also a great place to get a deal on a local Inuit carving. The carvers or their family will drop in on a regular basis and offer their carvings for sale.

Alexis Hotel, Port Hope Simpson, Labrador by jamiesno In Port Hope Simpson, Labrador I had the pleasure of staying at the Alexis Hotel on a couple of occassions. The hotel is centrally located on the southeast coast of Labrador and the rooms are comfortable. The hotel got a major face lift in 2003 with new rooms and dining area. Several of the rooms have amazing views of the area so ask about them when you make your booking.
Great restaurant view of the Alexis River and Port Hope Simpson harbour.

Adlavik Inn Tour Boat by jamiesno I didn't have a picture of the Adlavik Inn but rather than leave the photo blank I thought I would provide this nice picture of the local church in Makkovik. The Adlavik Inn is the main hotel in the community and you will be well taken care of here.
The hotel owners also operate tours of northern region. If you want to observe seals in the natural habitate or get an upclose and personal view of an iceberg or explore the interior of Labrador on a snowmobile they will be happy to help you and I am sure you won't be disappointed!! They also have a web site with more information.

Fully licensed dining room and lounge/bar. Enjoy your stay at the Amaguk in Hopedale on Labrador's north coast!!!!

Boat sailing the Cartwright Harbour in Labrador by jamiesno I have only ever eaten at the Cartwright but I know in 2003 and 2004 the hotel experienced expansion and renovations. The breakfast there was very good. This is an important tip however because its the only hotel in Cartwright. There is also a bed and breakfast. If your travelling via the Labrador Coastal Drive or the provincial ferry system you may need accomodations in the Cartwright, Labrador area.

Driving into the community of L'anse au Clair by jamiesno In the Labrador Straits region you will find the Northern Light Inn. It is one of Labrador's larger hotels with very clean rooms, a bar, great restaurant and in the tourist season a regular dinner theatre which makes for some great local entertainment. This is unique to this hotel and very entertaining. I saw the dinner theatre on a couple of occassions now and it was great each time!

My apologies for a poor picture of the Oceanview!! by jamiesno In the Labrador Straits region you will also find the Oceanview Resort. This resort has a nice restaurant, is very close to a provincial park and is recently renovated with some of Labrador's best rooms. You will have a comfortable stay here. I provided a web site and telephone number for this location.

Mary's Harbour River by jamiesno The River Lodge Hotel is the place to stay in Mary's Harbour if you are not blessed with family in the community. There is meeting room space, a gift shop, newly renovated guest rooms, a restaurant and Old Pete's pub. The view from the restaurant overlooks the local river.

A typical B&B by Redlats We would suggest that you use Bed and Breakfasts when vacationing in Newfoundland. B&B's are normally in private homes converted for this purpose. Most of the ones we used were couples whose kids had flown the coop. Of course, B&B's must offer breakfast included in the room rate, and in NL, most breakfasts were full breakfasts featuring local cooking and not just continental breakfasts of hard buns.
We found that we received more personal attention in B&B's. We had people to talk to - both our hosts and other travellers. B&B hosts would give us advice about our next day's plans or point us in the direction of good restaurants for our evening meal. The prices we paid ran from $50 to $70 Cdn. Generally the closer we were to the cities, the more the price was. Also the less expensive rooms normally involved a shared bathroom. Of course many B&B's are priced higher. We travelled with the province tourism guide which listed all the B&B's along with their ammenities and prices, etc. If you are following our Newfoundland holiday, click here to get back to my Newfoundland page.

If you are heading to Gros Morne National Park and needs to stop by the town of Deer Lake for a day due to transportation arrangements or to explore this lovely town, then you can consider staying at the Deer Lake Motel. This is a simple and cosy motel located along the Trans-Canadian Highway about few minutes drive from Deer Lake. Very importantly, it is located just across the Irving Big Stop petrol station, which is the waiting point for buses on the Port Aux Basque - St John's route as well as buses on the Corner Brook - Viking Trail route (including Gros Morne National Park). The food at the restaurant in the motel is tasty, especially the seafood dishes. More information and photos of Deer Lake town are at my VT Deer Lake page.
