Variety of inexpensive.: Gower St. St John's

by Suzanne123

Gower St is right downtown and is close to Duckworth st & Water St the main shopping st's

There are a few B&B's. I highly suggest "At Wit's Inn" for $129 or "Bell's Boutique $100" Both are Bed and Breakfast stays and are located side by side from each other.

Also there is a HI (hosteling international)

Friendship Center: the cheapest place in Goose Bay

by jorgejuansanchez

This is a nice place, a kind of Salvation Arrmy, where they help people. You pay only 40 dollars per night (in case that you are broke, they can allow you to stay for less, 25 dollars, or even for free).
It is also a shop and you can have a shower for free. You can cook your food.

friendly place. It is located close to the Police Station.

Delta St Johns: Nice view of the harbour

by larx

Stayed here for 4 nights on a weekend in May 2008. Had a room high up overlooking St Johns harbour.
The room and the food was quite good and the hotel was a hive of activity right through my stay.
Seem to be a number of conferences going on in the few days I was here.
Staff at reception quite helpful also.

Compton House Heritage Inn: Inn in St John's

by easterntrekker

We had a wonderful stay here a couple of years ago. It's a restored Victorian mansion is set in a large garden . The full home-cooked breakfasts are elegantly served in the formal dining room. Big rooms with high ceilings.

situated in a fine old residential neighbourhood a 15 minute walk or short bus ride from downtown.

Hotels at St John's

by victorwkf

There are several good hotels at St John's (capital of Newfoundland) to choose from but I would recommend either the Quality Hotel Harbourfront or the Battery Hotel & Suites. More information and photos of both hotels are available at my VT St John's page or the following websites:

Deer Lake Motel

by victorwkf

If you are heading to Gros Morne National Park and needs to stop by the town of Deer Lake for a day due to transportation arrangements or to explore this lovely town, then you can consider staying at the Deer Lake Motel. This is a simple and cosy motel located along the Trans-Canadian Highway about few minutes drive from Deer Lake. Very importantly, it is located just across the Irving Big Stop petrol station, which is the waiting point for buses on the Port Aux Basque - St John's route as well as buses on the Corner Brook - Viking Trail route (including Gros Morne National Park). The food at the restaurant in the motel is tasty, especially the seafood dishes. More information and photos of Deer Lake town are at my VT Deer Lake page.

Ocean View Motel

by victorwkf

If you want to spend some days at Gros Morne National Park, then the Ocean View Motel should be a good choice because it is conveniently located at the town of Rock Harbour with a good view of the sea which is in front of it. Also, there are convenient stores and eating places nearby, plus the staff are very friendly. This motel is opened all year around unlike some other places which only open during summer to early autumn. More information and photos of Rocky Harbour are at my VT Woody Point page.

Tuckamore Lodge, Main Brook: Like visiting friends and family!

by cctoot

Barb and Randy made the four of us women feel right at home in the Newfoundland outdoors. The lodge was wonderful, the rooms were wonderful, the food was prepared especially for us, and the adventure starts here. If you want bear watching, kayaking, canoeing, boats, Vikings, Moose, fishing, good hiking, etc -- Newfoundland is the place to visit! We got a package deal.

Water view, peaceful, homey

Bed and Breakfasts: Accommodations on Newfoundland

by Redlats

We would suggest that you use Bed and Breakfasts when vacationing in Newfoundland. B&B's are normally in private homes converted for this purpose. Most of the ones we used were couples whose kids had flown the coop. Of course, B&B's must offer breakfast included in the room rate, and in NL, most breakfasts were full breakfasts featuring local cooking and not just continental breakfasts of hard buns.

We found that we received more personal attention in B&B's. We had people to talk to - both our hosts and other travellers. B&B hosts would give us advice about our next day's plans or point us in the direction of good restaurants for our evening meal.

The prices we paid ran from $50 to $70 Cdn. Generally the closer we were to the cities, the more the price was. Also the less expensive rooms normally involved a shared bathroom. Of course many B&B's are priced higher. We travelled with the province tourism guide which listed all the B&B's along with their ammenities and prices, etc.

Cartwright Hotel: Cartwright Hotel in Cartwright, Labrador

by jamiesno

I have only ever eaten at the Cartwright but I know in 2003 and 2004 the hotel experienced expansion and renovations.

The breakfast there was very good.

This is an important tip however because its the only hotel in Cartwright. There is also a bed and breakfast. If your travelling via the Labrador Coastal Drive or the provincial ferry system you may need accomodations in the Cartwright, Labrador area.
