The Delta - Great for an event stay!

I've stayed at the Delta a few times and it is a very comfortable hotel. I was there for two weeks straight in September 2005 doing an Executive Development Program with Memorial University.

There is a new section to this hotel as well now. I didn't see much difference from the old section. There is a good work out area, pool, sauna and hot tub. Those are all fun in your free time.

If you are staying for a while I would ask for a room with a view of the harbour. It's nice waking up every morning to a great view of downtown.

Unique Quality: One of the advantages of this hotel is the location. It is right downtown and if your attending an event at Mile One Stadium you can take a skywalk and not have to go outside. This is important in St. John's because of the rain.

Myself and some friends where staying there and attending a Pearl Jam concert. The line up was huge and it started to rain. We turned around took the skywalk and got straight into the concert.

St. John's Friendly and Fun Hotel

Delta St. John's was a great hotel and considering I wasn't paying a cent for the room, even better! It is located very very close to George St (where we went practically every night) so it is an easy walk even in sub 0 temperatures.
The staff is very accomodating and friendly considering we were a noisy bunch of international college kids. Even when we were 'busted' for a party, the security was patient and let a few finish their drinks. They have a beautiful grand piano in the lobby that we played at 3 am and a little tipsy. As long as you can REALLY play, the front desk staff won't make a sound. Only chopstick will move them to politely ask you to stop playing. (My rendition of Titanic was greatly appreciated considering it sank 365 miles off St. John's coast!)

Unique Quality: There was a nice business center with two computers so you can check your email, print, and make phone calls.
Also, some of the rooms have georgeous views of St. John's, however, even our standard room was great! The maids were the best I've ever had at a hotel. Good or bad, they rearranged all our tolietries in the bathroom....and when two girls are staying in a room for a week...they make a mess.
Mickey Quinn's is AWESOME! It's their bar/restaurant. We had a party there one night with a live local band. It is decorated in Irish pub decor and while the service was slow to my American standards, it is a great place to just relax. (You HAVE to try the fries with gravy, cheese, and vinegar...yummy at 3 am!)

Closer to Nightlife

I prefer the Delta Hotel to the Fairmount Newfoundland. The location is the best.

Nice view of the harbour

by larx about Delta St Johns

Stayed here for 4 nights on a weekend in May 2008. Had a room high up overlooking St Johns harbour.
The room and the food was quite good and the hotel was a hive of activity right through my stay.
Seem to be a number of conferences going on in the few days I was here.
Staff at reception quite helpful also.
