A Gem in Historic Annapolis Royal
Looking for a place that you will never forget? With furnishings so charming and wonderful you think you went back in time nearly 100 years? Then look no farther because a beautiful old home on the main highway into Annapolis Royal awaits and just a stone's throw from the quaint and historic downtown. The place itself is in immaculate condition and arranged tastefully and beautifully. Our room we had was on the second floor a large room, in fantastic shape with no costs spared to provide the best in comfort to the guests. The bed was like sleeping on something out of heaven. While most of the other b & bs in Annapolis Royal were vacant they still were over two thirds full on a cold and wet October night. The breakfast in the morning was good but not outstanding and served by two hired workers with no sign of the hosts Val and Paul. The service during breakfast was excellent by the way. While we saw the hostess briefly in the afternoon we were unable to find the host during our entire visit despite looking and asking. Having an opportunity to meet them would have significantly enhanced the visit and given us an some more insight into the charming town. We stayed in the room on the top floor and the furnishings were great and the bed was super comfy. Cost was just under $ 100 which includes breakfast.
Unique Quality: Period furniture and attention to detail in the rooms is fantastic. Great morning breakfast also.
TIP: They do accept a AAA discount and they offer periodic other discounts at their website.

Excellent B&B with Great Breakfasts
We stayed at the Hillsdale House for two nights, and loved the inn. The location is great, almost next door to the rose gardens, and walking distance to Fort Ann National Historic Site (the Graveyard Tour at night was very informative and fun) and the cute shops in town. The breakfasts were delicious. We used Annapolis Royal as a base on one of our days there to drive to Digby Neck to take a whale watching tour from Brier Island Whale and Seabird Cruises. It was an excellent cruise. We highly recommend this B&B.
Wonderful place to stay
We were totally exhaused wwhen we arrived at the Hilldsale Inn and the owner promptly offered to make us some tea. It was a great welcome after a long day on the road. She promptly took us to our rooms and the minute my granddaughter saw that one of the rooms had a day bed, as well as a full sized bed, her face lit up. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. The breakfast was absolutely deliciious. We were sorry that we could only spend one night at this fabulous place. We will go back. This is one great value for your money coupled with really nice people who own the place
Loved The Hillsdale House Inn!
My stay at the Hillsdale House was simply fantastic. The owners of this B&B are very passionate about what they do, and it shows! They took the time to answer my queries about what I should see given the amount of time I could spend in Annapolis Royal (1.5 days). They want your experience to be pleasant and they will try their very best to share with you their experiences in order for you to enjoy their lovely neighbourhood.
I was able to cram in a "Digby Neck visit - Long Island (terrific whale watching!) because they recommended me to a good Zodiac whale watching operator.
Rooms are spacious, food is good and the Inn is in pristine condition. Well worth a stay!

Wonderfull Inn in a wonderful town
We stayed at the Inn for seven nights this summer. Three nights, then two nights at White Point Resort, then back for four evenings. The rooms were large and comfortable. They are furnished with antiques and this adds to the time travel you experience in the entire community. The grounds are a large garden with plenty of room to walk and explore for kids and adults alike. The breakfasts were great - blue berries were in season and available for each day. The dinning room is a good size and there is an incredible fireplace surround that looks to be over a hundred years old - very detailed carvings.
The owners, Val & Paul, were very helpful in suggesting places to visit and in explaining some of the history of the area. I would suggest the night time graveyard tour and the Sinclair Inn museum at a minimum. There are so many historical sites to see, it is difficult to get it all in.
We hope to return soon and visit the areas we missed. We'll stay at the Hillsdale Inn again, of course.
First time at this property - exceeded expectations! The room was very comfortable and the bed gave a fabulous good night's rest! The room may have been small, but very cozy and had all the comforts of home, including adjustable wall-hanging TV! Loved the few recent copies of magazines on the counter, just in case you wanted to curl up on the love seat and quietly read. The breakfast was delicious - the fresh-from-the-oven-banana-nut-muffins were my favourite! And very much enjoyed having my breakfast with Hannah the beloved St. Bernard!
Hillsdale House Inn: your home away from home.
We chose to hold our family reunion at the Hillsdale House Inn. They welcomed all 20 of us as one would family. The inn is quite large and it handled all of us with style and comfort. The beds were welcoming, the garden inviting for afternoon strolls or just relaxing with a good book and tea, the parlour a great place to convene to arrange the days events and of course Hannah and Simonette to pet in those quite moments, Despite having a number of "non-morning" people in the family, who could resist the smell of fresh baked muffins wafting from the kitchen each morning as a prelude to wonderful waffles/pancakes/eggs/ bacon and fresh fruit . The staff was extremely obliging and Val and Paul the perfect hosts. They even surprised us by having the "Town Crier" awaken and welcome all of us one morning. We did the graveyard night tour, ( with Lanterns) - highly recommended to get a real flavour of this town's heritage. By day Annapolis Royal and its unique stores are only a short 10 minute stroll from Hillsdale House Inn. We had the opportunity to check out the weekend market, watch the antique car show, and enjoy wonderful seafood meals. But we always knew we'd be returning to the beauty and peacefulness of Hillsdale House.
We consider that staying at the Hillsdale House Inn is a must if you are visiting Nova Scotia and want to experience it all.
Home away from home............
Stayed at the Hillsdale for 3 nights in October. Beautiful property with wonderful antiques to gaze at. All of the rooms that I peeked in were beautifully decorated and there is something to suit every taste. Breakfast was delicious and the homemade bread is wonderful. The hosts Val and Paul will give you tips on how to spend whatever time you have in Annapolis Royal and the graveyard tour is a must. Have already recommended the inn to others and I know we will be back.
Outstanding Inn and fabulous hosts
Amazing historic Inn but with modern amenities. Val and Paul are fab hosts who pay great attention to detail and make you feel very welcome. Breakfasts are wonderful with homemade bread and jams, great choice and very fresh.
Good central location for walks to Fort Anne and historic gardens. We would definitely visit again!

Great Location for Golfers
We stayed at the Hillsdale House for the 2nd times this year and found that Val and Paul are totally consistent with their excellent value, comfortable and attractive rooms, and delicious breakfast (with a difficult choice between eggs - any style and blueberry pancakes with both local blueberries and local Maple syrup).
On this visit we were even able to share a fine bottle of local wine with them and were fortunate to learn the stories of their ancestors whose old-time photographs lined one of the parlour walls.
Hillsdale House is located just a few minutes away from the neat Annapolis Royal Golf Course and not much farther from other fine golf courses. We have stayed at a wide variety of B&B's and strongly recommend the Hillsdale experience without any hesitation.
