The Delta Barrington is one of several upscale hotels in downtown Halifax. It's a very unconventional looking hotel, and I have stayed here at least a dozen times. There are several things I don't like about it, like the parking situation, ease of access, the size of the rooms, and the price, but other than that, it's a nice hotel.
The hotel is built in an old building that is part convention centre, mall, and historic property. There are a series of winding hallways that lead to restaurants and back entrances to bars along Granville Street like Peddler's Pub.
If you're there in the winter, the Barrington is a good choice because it's connected to many downtown attractions by covered pedways. You can get to the Casino without having to go outside.
Unique Quality: They now have high-speed internet in the rooms. If you stay in the Signature rooms, you get a free continental breakfast.
There's valet parking, but it's very expensive. If you don't chose their parking, it's hard to find something else close.
The restaurant in the lower level has an amazing breakfast buffet.
Directions: Downtown, just up the hill from the Historic Properties
I stayed at the Delta Barrington for 2 nights. My friend who had booked the rooms booked the quality of room that is just above the standard level. Our plan was to get a room with a couch that I could sleep on! Didn't quite work out as we got a room with two chairs! To make a long story short they offered us a cot which turned out to be much better then a couch.
Our stay was great. The only real bonus I saw from this level of room was the portable phone, a little more room, 2 chairs and well..........a shoe polish pad thingy! Other then that it was like a normal room
Unique Quality: The shoe polish pad thingy was neat!
-Very nice pool and gym
-Great service
Directions: In the middle of Downtown Halifax
I stayed at the Delta Barrington before and it was a very nice hotel as you might expect from Delta.
It was during some seafood type festival and the food was great. The rooms where also great.
Most importantly to me always in any event is the location. The Delta Barrington is located right in the heart of the downtown area so you can explore all of downtown on foot from hear easily.
A lot of people go to the Casino in Halifax and this is just a very short walk away across a couple of streets and you are there.
Unique Quality: So you heard my version, here is the Delta version :-)
For years the people of Halifax have been welcoming visitors from around the world to this maritime seaport. At Delta Barrington we continue this tradition where there is always a friendly smile to greet you and plenty of “down home” maritime hospitality throughout your stay with us.
Located in the city centre, and connected by indoor walkway to our sister property Delta Halifax, The Delta Barrington offers friendly, personal service in a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. Our location on the Downtown Link walkway system also offers quick, climate controlled access to shops, boutiques, office towers, Casino Nova Scotia and the World Trade and Convention Centre. If a relaxing walk with fresh air is in order, stroll through Historic Properties or along the harbour boardwalk with all of its attractions, restaurants and entertainment venues, located just two blocks west. Delta Barrington is proud to offer Signature Club, featuring 32 upgraded guest rooms and our Signature Club Lounge serving complimentary breakfast and evening hors d’oeuvres, for the ultimate in personal service.
This hotel is in the heart of the city near the waterfront. The pubs and shops of Barrington Place are just minutes away. Modern hotel with friendly and efficient staff. Wide ranging facilities.
This is a moderate to high chain owned hotel. It has interesting shops in the building and nearby. It is close to interesting and good places to eat within varying walking distances. Within walking distance of the harbor and a few in town attractions of general and historic interest.
Unique Quality: A nice variety of interesting shop within the building.
Directions: in the downtown
Hello everyone!
My parents and another couple will be going to Halifax near the end of July, beginning August.
Would anyone have suggestions about:
1) Great Hotels near the waterfront(minimum 3 star...preferably 4 star) (Casino hotel, Westin..???) what is recommended.
2) Great Bed and Breakfast places near the waterfront (Waverly Inn?)
3) Places to eat ..that have a lot of ambiance..and good food..
4) Activities to see..
Was told one should take a look at the Waterford crystal makers..Where does that take place?
5) Finally, they hope to rent a car and drive up to Cape Breton..Can anyone recommend a good route ..and what they might wish to see? They are hoping to drive for no more than 3 hours at a time..Where might they stop..on their way?
I realize the list is awfully long, but
any help would be much appreciated..
Tried to read through the reviews..but they are a bit overwhelming..
THANKS!
Cheers!
3) Five Fishermen. Don't miss this one.

Regarding Halifax Hotels in July/August
You better make a reservation now. Halifax hotels are full in the summer. Maybe this year will be different . We thought we could just drive in and find something . No way.
Hi!
We stayed at the Westin which was very comfortable and friendly. You have to pay a little bit more for a higher floor room overlooking the harbour, but it is worth it.
We walked past the Waverley Inn a couple of times. It looked OK from the outside, but slightly tacky.
Much nicer was the Halliburton House Inn, which also has an excellent restaurant ("Stories") - well worth a visit. Take a look at their website:

Have a great trip.

Hotels near the waterfront.. the Westin or the Casino hotel are good choices if you want a view. Otherwise, the sheraton four point, delta halifax and delta barrington are all pretty close.
Places to eat: Economy Shoe Shop (a restaurant!), Opa, Taj Mahal are probably amongst the most popular and are definately not to miss. The first two for their ambience, the third for its incredible food.
Activities: the Harbour Hopper (a boat that takes you across the city and into the harbour - a tourist favourite). Also, there are the public gardens, the cemetries where the titanic people are buried, the waterfront itself. Around the time you mentioned, we'll be having the Tall Ships and Buskers festival.. both are a must see if in town.
Hope that helps.
