Staying in a Yurt - and forget about your tent

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on May 31, 2004

A yurt is a standalone structure with 2 bunk beds, a table and some chairs, indoor lighting and an electricity outlet. It is a good alternative to tent camping in the cold weather, as the yurt has an electric heater and an insulated floor. There is also an outdoor bbq with a tank of propane outside for use.

You have to bring everything that you would need for tent camping, less the tent and air matress.

Note that cooking is not allowed inside the yurt.

There are 7 yurts at Mew Lake, but they are booked quickly, so reserve one at least 6 months before.

Unique Quality: Many electric campsites at Mew Lake are in small lots with very few trees. Facilities included: a comfort station with showers and flush toilets, a woodyard and a beach.

The campground is close to the bike rental, which is located at the store west of the campground on Hwy 60. There is also an access point to the Old Railway Bike Trail, a 10 km easy-rated trail to Rock Lake.

Mew Lake is another lake that does not allow motor boats.
