How to cut down a tree!
"Cutting a dead tree for firewood."
Trees that are standing dead are cut down in the fall, split & stored in the woodshed and will be used for firewood for the wood stove for next year once the wood has fully dried.
What you do is decide were you want the tree to fall & cut out a large notch in the direction that you whould like the tree to fall.
Once the one side is notched out, you then put a straight cut on the opposite side till the tree starts to come down. (You then hope that it ends up falling were you want it to).
Hey Piper!!! Get the heck out of there, that's were the tree's coming down!
It's a good thing Piper listens, that was the exact spot were he was standing a minute ago.
Now comes the hard work, time to cut the branches off, cut the tree in 12 to 14 inch lenghts & then split them up on the splitter.
Once the wood is all split & in the woodshed, it's then time for a wash-up in the lake and then start cracking open a few beers to toast a job well done.
(Note that we do not encourage drinking alcohol while you are using any power tools, but it sure tasts good after the job is done)
