RMC overview photo from their web page.

RMC is now over one hundred years old. It was established by an act of the Canadian Parliament in 1874 'for the purpose of providing a complete education in all branches of military tactics, fortification, engineering, and general scientific knowledge in subjects connected with and necessary to thorough knowledge of the military profession.' On June 1, 1876, the Military College of Canada opened its doors to the first class of eighteen gentlemen cadets. These are the 'Old Eighteen,' known by name to all cadets today. Two years later, in 1878, Her Majesty, Queen Victoria, granted the College the right to use the prefix 'Royal.'

I like their red tunics. Wouldn't want to wear one in battle though. It makes too nice a target!!!!

Packing List

by hayward68

Kingston is on the water so can get cool at night in the summer. In the winter it's downright cold so be prepared with warm clothing. Bring your beach gear for the lovely beaches and your scuba gear for exploring the wrecks. You might want your wetsuit to be on the thicker side, the water is not that warm.

Fort Henry

by hayward68

Visit one of Canada's national historic sites. A 19th century citadel that lets you experience life during that era. Lots of things to see and do here. The people here dress as they did back when the fort was active and you can see military and marching demonstrations. The workers talk to you in character as well. I remember my Nanny trying to get one to slip up and he never did.

Sir John A MacDonald's Final Resting Place

by windsorgirl

Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. MacDonald immigrated to Kingston from Glasgow, Scotland with his family at the age of five. He grew up in Kingston, and began training in the legal profession at the age 15. He set up practice here in 1835 and entered political life in 1843 and became Canada's first Prime Minister in 1867.

He died in Ottawa in 1891 following a stroke at the age of 76, but was returned to Kingston to rest in the family plot at the beautiful Cataraqui Cemetary. His grave is marked with a simple stone cross as he requested.

" The first capital of Canada "

Kingston is located in the province of Ontario at the eastern end of Ontario lake. It looks quit city but with a lot of history, it was the first capital of united Canada before the confederation between 1841 and 1844.
Fort Henry is still witness of the importance of this city, it was built by the britain to guard the city and the entrance to rideau canal from the americans, it became now a popular touristic destination.
It is also an entry to the 1000 islands region wich is a big touristic destination in the province.
