Puslinch Lake

Puslinch Lake is a park not far from the Kitchener-Waterloo region that provides excellent opportunities for those who enjoy outdoor activities of all kinds. The park can be reached by taking the 401 east from Kitchener to exit 284 (Puslinch Line), turning right and then taking the first left. The area is not in fact a conservation area or a national park, so signage is pretty basic and it's easy to get lost. Once you're in the park, there are trails that are well worn, but not marked. If walking, it's best to stay around the area near the large ponds and lakes, as these are the most frequent paths for walkers and hikers. The less-walked paths that go farther east are the favourites of bikers, and they are usually rougher. It can take up to 2 or 2.5 hours to be able to get all the way around the park, and that usually includes time for getting lost. It's best not to visit right after storms, as the area gets quite muddy, and to bring bug spray during the summer months to avoid the worst of the mosquito bites. Most people tend to stay around the lake near the entrance and the two ponds (one north-east of the lake, and the other directly east through some of the forest). The smaller lake in the forest has some decent beaches, as far as beaches go in the area.
Kitchener-Waterloo

Kitchener is located in Ontario about an hour (100km) West of Toronto. This area is often referred to as the Tri-Cities as the borders of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge kind of meld into one another.
The city itself in a unique geographic position...about an hour away from everything. On the one hand, you've got Toronto and all the entertainment that a major city affords, on the other hand, you can be on a beach on Lake Huron in 60 min. In between there is Stratford with the Shakespeare and the oooh and the aahhh.
The "Golden Triangle" is a major technology and financial area, so you've got firms like RIM, Descartes, Sunlife/Clarica and Manulife right in town. Which is a little bit odd when you see a Mennonite buggy driving down the main street (King Street)... :|
2 major universities, one major college....this is not a town for the newly weds and nearly deads...it's all over the place.
The major attractions are summer things like the St. Jacob's market (year-round, but hopping in the summer) and the Mennonite Quilt Festival in May. But the most interesting has to be the Oktoberfest.
Kitchener Oktoberfest is the second largest in the world. Imagine a beer tent, polka music and goldschlagger with 5000 of your closest friends. And that's just ONE of the venues. It's pretty crazy around here for about a week. A fun time, though.
