LondonApartmentsDirect Scam
by declyn
Help, help, help!!! We are a group of 12 people who have contracted with London
Apartments Direct for lodging in London from Dec 26 through Jan5. After our monies were deposited, we have yet to receive a contract and have gotten sketchy, minimally reassuring emails that "everyhting will be alright and you will have a wonderful vacation." Has anyone dealt with this company before/
What body does the licsensing of these companies, in case we need to use pressure to obtain a refund? Has anyone used Home to Home? This is the new company we are dealing with (no money involved yet.) How do we check the legitimacy of an organization 4000 miles away. We don't want to end up sleeping at the Travelers Aid kiosk when we get to London. Has anyone used any
companies in London to rent a short lease self catering apartment. Thank you,
thank you, thank you.

Hi Lynn,
Oh dear, sounds a little worrying to say the least. Sorry I can't really help you at all, but I did find another posting from elsewhere, which seems to confirm your suspicions. Rather than post it here, I'll email it to you.
Hopefully someone else can help you.
Regards
Geoff

Re London Apartments Direct - not good news, I am afraid. Go to the London Forum and look at the post by rqajria for Friday June 16, and the responses. Don't know anything about Home to Home. Will have a think about a reliable place through which to rent a short-lease self-catering apartment.

If you go to www.octopus.com and click on "where you live" and then click on "apartments" and then follow the links, you will be able to see what is available in London during the time you require. I have used octopus many times and have found them to be extremely reliable and offer rates cheaper than elsewhere. You will probably have to rentmore than one apartment for 12 people.

Wow they're hitting london ontario as well?
I remember the first post about this company... there have unfortunately been many more since... what ever you do please report the scam and keep on at them to chase it up... this is turning into a big thing and more people that keep on reporting the faster they will do something about companies running this kind of scam.
if you need any other help or info please email me on vt

you can email me on vt if theres anything you want to know... other than that report it to the police and watchdog... i believe the website has been suspended as it looks like they are under investigation now so the more people that complain now the more likely it is the guy will get put behind bars

Travel Tips for London
Large University
by Martman
London, Ontario, is famous for being the home of the “Western University”. This is a large university for a city this size. London is hence a “University City”. I believe that if anyone is in the city anyway, it is worth visiting this impressive campus.
Woodland Garden
by janika
Woodland Garden is a place where locals go on nice days and weekends to enjoy nature, walk, bike, rollerblade or jog. The garden is full of flower-beds, big trees and artistically landscaped terrain. All this by the river and close to the Guy Lombardo museum. A good spot to meet other people, especially locals.

Grand Bend
This is the place...

Grand Bend
This is the place to party in the summer. Located about an hour’s drive from London on Lake Huron. The beach itself isn’t anything to write home about, but it’s the party atmosphere that makes this town come alive. People go here to play volleyball on the beach, drink at the local establishments and generally just misbehave. It’s all good fun though! Though finding a place to park can be a major hassle as so many people descend on this place at one time.
Doors Open London
by Redlats
One September weekend each year, many sites in London -- both private and public open their doors for residents to see. There is quite a range in the sites available from historic buildings to the top of sky scrapers to museums and parks. Some of the sites are not normally open to the public.
in 2008, Doors Open London had 51 sites of which we visited about eight of them in a day and a half. Not all the sites will be of interest to everyone, but we learned about a church near our son's condo, we got to take pictures from the top of a skyscraper, visited the university president's home, toured a couple of museums, went through two grand old buildings from London's past and saw other sites.
This is the seventh year that London has held a Doors Open, and I am quite sure it will continue for a while yet. Attendance is free; it is sponsored by Ontario Heritage Trust (I am not quite sure who they are).
A short stop in London
by Dabs
London looked like a good place to stop between Windsor and Niagara Falls, it's a large town of over 350,000 people but once we got to the center of town it didn't really seem like a large city. The center of town looked like it had some interesting places to eat, after we saw a middle eastern restaurant and a place to get poutine, we decided to stop the car and have some lunch.
