North Shore Mining and Paper Town
Marathon is one of the more substantial towns on the Ontario North Shore of Lake Superior. It has its own active paper mill, serves as a resource center for nearby mines (including a working gold mine), and is a hub for diverse recreational activities in this part of the world. It's home to about 4500 people.
And yet it seems pretty quiet here! The forests are big, the settled area is small, and the harbor is still largely undeveloped. It could be Alaska.
