use of travellers cheques in shops

by yarisblue

Hello

Could anyone please advise me if we can use American Dollar Travellers cheques in Canadian stores i.e. Wallmart, Superstore Canada etc., and if so, are there any surcharges.

Also, do stores accept Canadian Dollar Travellers cheques?

Thanks for any replies.

Yes, you can use American Dollar Traveller cheques in Canada, but you won't get a fair exchange rate. With the Canadian dollar at around .90 some stores may not give you an exchange rate, it may just be dollar for dollar. And yes since you are in Canada, we do accept our own canadian travelers cheques. Most banks will charge you a fee to cash travellers checques so you are better off cashing them at stores or perhaps your hotel. You would be better off using your ATM card rather than fooling with travelers cheques, however be aware that you may be charged a small withdrawal fee for using your ATM card.

when in france, use french currency. when in new zealand use their currency. same holds true in canada and the us. while some canadian store MAY accept a us travellers cheque, many won't. they are two different countries.

Reminds old Cliffie of the time he was sitting in a hotel lobby in Paris. An American woman approached the front desk and gave the clerk some postcards.

- Will you post these for me please?
- But, Madame, they all have American stamps.
- Of course they do, they are all to the folks back home. And they are all airmail stamps.

Heart Lake Conservation Area - urban yet wild

by Faiza-Ifrah

This conservation area is named after the lake, which is the focal point. The lake is a naturally occuring kettle lake that is a legacy of the last galacial age in Southern Ontario.

The dense forest surrounding the lake makes it very wild even though the area is located few minutes away from the city of Brampton. The dense forest was our focal point though we had a whole day devoted with our relatives to boating, fishing, playing and bbqing.

There are over 8 kilometers of scenic natural trails within the conservation area. We found them to be less used and quite wild. Light values were low and we could not take many pictures.

We rented a boat for fishing. We thought that we were lucky in having the boat because of the big demand for them, but in the end we found out that fish were more lucky. We did not catch much. The lake is stocked with fish reared in the hatcheries of Glen Haffy Conservation Area. In order to reach the lake, we had to climb down about 40 steps of a wooden stair.

We occupied one picnic spot (there are 14 of such sites) and prepared the bbq, while the younger lot played football and soccer.

In order to get to the area, take Highway 410 north from Highway 401, which becomes Heart Lake Road. You will find the Conservation Area on your right hand side at 10818 Heart Lake Road.

"The Port Credit Lighthouse"

This is near the Port Credit or Snug Harbour in "Downtown" Port Credit...also known as Mississauga.

There is a walk way that will take you along the harbour and through the village. The Credit River empties out in to the harbour area and into Lake Ontario.

"Park"

In Mississauga, we have a long waterfront trail that will take you along the shores of Lake Ontario, you can walk, run, ride a bike or rollar blade down the trails.
This portion is actually a man made section of the park. There is a splash park and jungle gym for the kids, a restaurant, boat launch ramps and a Yacht Club.
Great place to go and have a picnic, or to walk the dog :)

"Lake Ontario"

This picture was taken from the shores of Lake Ontario facing towards Toronto in Port Credit (Mississauga) Ontario.

If you squint you can see the CN Tower in the distance.
