Greyhound Bus to NY

by magpie_cram

Hi everyone,

I have a question that is bugging me. My Girlfriend and I are going to be in Niagara Falls on the 27th Sept, that night we wish to catch the overnight Greyhound bus to New York. My problem is that with us being in Australia, I am unable to book online or over the phone (already spoke to an operator), they are saying that Niagara Falls Ontario terminal is not "high tech" enough to take such orders!! and that we should turn up 1 hour before the scheduled departure time and purchase our tickets??

My worry is that the bus may be sold out and we will be stuck in Niagara.

Has anyone traveled on this bus, and does it sell out often?

Hope someone can help with my fears...lol..

Thanks,
Marc

Hi - It looks like Greyhound's Canadian site is unable to handle anything other than a Canadian billing/mailing address nor do they have e-tickets, which is very weird! Unfortunately if you do not pre-book the price will be very high. I would try and give a call to the main toll-free number rather than trying to deal with the specific Ontario terminal and see if they can help. The number is 001-800-661-8747. It's not toll-free for you but you should still be able to get through on that number (by paying for the call). Good luck!

Purchasing the ticket the day you wish to leave will NOT be much more than the 7 day advance purchase ticket. The cost for a 7 day advance purchase ticket is $85.00 and a ticket purchased on the date of departure $101.20. As far as having enough seats on the bus, if one bus is full then a 2nd bus will be added. Just be at the bus station a couple of hours prior to departure to purchase your ticket, you won't have any problems.

A 21 day advance is only like $47. So day of departure is more than double! Why should they have to pay that much?

Re: Greyhound Bus to NY

Well the answer is fairly simple. When you go to the greyhound.ca website and put in any dates, only two fares are available, a 7 day advance and one that is a non refundable fare. That's it, no more, good by.

Well your answer is incorrect. If you put in the correct dates, you will see that there is a 21-day, 14-day, and 7-day advance, as well as a non-refundable fare.

Travel Tips for Niagara Falls

Canadian Pride!

by NC_Ziggy

I think there is nothing that quite prepares you for the visual effects you are about to encounter as you visit Niagara Falls... Ok, maybe you have been fortunate enough to have traveled the world and viewed the Victoria Falls or some secluded never-before-seen-by-human-eyes falls in the midst of the Amazon, but for most of us this is an amazing sight to behold! And as I haven't viewed those other places, this one is so awesome to see! If you are anywhere close to this area, you simply MUST make an effort to see this! You won't be disappointed! You can thank me later... send money! I was very lucky to have visited Niagara Falls on a beautiful, sunny day and accompanied by a most kind companion! Combined with the stimulating visuals provided by this natural wonder, it was nice to be able to share the experience with a new friend, old friend. And to the nice person out there who leaves a solitary rating on the pages where I may happen to mention that this would be a great, romantic place to visit with a special someone... Here's another one! Rate Away!

Gratuties & Tipping

by JennysTravels

I have been in the hospitality industry for over 15 years now. I enjoy my job and all the interesting travelers I get to meet. My beef is, when you are traveling please remember your waitress at the end of your dinner. It is customary to tip 15-20% of your bill. Or you can add up all of Ontario's fine taxes to get 15%. That entire gratutiy does not go soley to the waitress. We must tip out our bartenders/hostess and bus kids and even management. If your service is poor, I can appreciate you wanting to leave little. But please show us some respect with nothing lower then a 15% tip.
Thank You.

Don't Forget New York

by sevilla72

If time allows, don't forget the New York side of the falls. It is such a contrast to the Canadian side. Although the view of the Horseshoe Falls isn't the greatest. You can get very close to the American Falls. While the Candian side is all built up with souvenir stores and museums, the American side is mostly a park. In fact, it is the oldest state park in the United States. You can walk right along the rapids leading to the falls. It is very peaceful and natural. Also, the view from the observation bridge is spectacular, if you don't mind heights!!!!

Winter road conditions

Another useful website to see the road conditions is:

http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/conditions/

Winter Road Conditions Reports are made available during the winter months, from the end of October to April each year.

IT'S A GREAT VIEW!

by Rich62 about Skylon Tower

If you wish to dine, and adult lunch is $27.50, early dinner (5 - 5:30) is $34.95, and dinner (6 - 10 pm) is $39.95 while childrens prices range from $12.50 to $15.00. These were the prices in May of 2009, and of course that would be in Canadian currency.

On another level they have a buffet that is advertised as "family affordable" but no prices are listed.

The observation deck is free if you are dining. we didn't eat up there.
