An Oasis of Calm Near to Niagara Falls

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on June 17, 2015

Located within 15-20 minutes of Clifton Hill Niagara Falls, the Clarion Hotel & Conference Centre in Fort Erie was a wonderful find. Having spent three days at the top of Clifton Hill with my 5 year old granddaughter and soon to be 70 year old mother, we were looking for something a little less hectic. This place proved to be just that. The exterior, the lobby, the washrooms, the rooms - everything was immaculate. The staff were superb and the elevators were surprisingly quick. My granddaughter noted immediately upon arrival, "This place has everything." To a five year old, everything means a pool, a hot tub and a games room; which this Clarion offered in addition to a sauna and a restaurant with limited hours.

The restaurant is open for breakfast (8:00 - 11:00 on weekends) and for supper 5:30 - 9:00. The hours vary a bit during the week by opening a little earlier for breakfast. The prices were very reasonable and each evening of our stay they had a different special for supper which was under $10. The first night was fish and chips and the second was roast chicken. The menu offers a variety of fare and there is also a children's menu with most meals around $6.00. The food itself was okay and was plentiful, palatable and very convenient being available without having to leave the hotel.

The beds were very comfortable with plenty of pillows and blankets and the bathroom was well stocked with an ample supply of towels and face cloths. I don't believe the TV was a flat-screen but there were plenty of channels to choose from and I never had a problem finding something for my granddaughter to watch the few times we were in the room and not in the pool.

The location was excellent being just a short drive from shopping, the Old Fort Erie, the lakeshore, the locks in Port Colborne and of course, Niagara Falls. The price for a weekend stay at this Clarion was less than half of the amount of a weekend stay at a comparable Niagara Falls hotel in June.
